Hi all,
As i'm new here, I would need your help from those who current living in doha. I got a job offer as post doc in doha and will be moving there soon. My package as bellow:
- basic salary: 14k
- accommodation + transport provided.
I'll be moving there with my wife (no kid)
I've seen some people have asked about this as well but I would like to have more info as I really no idea how expensive is qatar. could anyone please tell how living cost for 2 people per month such for moderate life food n home cooking sometime. we both are very simple dun really out going much. with my package is likely how much we could save? I'm asking all these coz i'm still in the stage of consideration. As for my wife I don't know if she could get a job there. Is there any class or course that she could take and apply for job there? how hard is it to get job for woman in doha?

Thank you very much for your help,

It depends if you want to eat everyday at Chilis, Applebees or other mid to high class restaurants. If you want to drive a Mercedes Benz, Audi or other expensive cars. If you always drink at Starbucks, Coffee Beanery or other high end coffee shops every day. Besides that, sending a portion of your salary to your parents or paying mortgages for your big house.

Then 14k is not enough.

Though seriously, its up to you and your lifestyle...Its expensive here, but is almost the same anywhere you go (except if its in Saudi Arabia).

Do you think Post - doc from Singapore is going to work here for Singapore Dollars 4825.00 (QR 14k/2.9)a month? The salary for a domestic maid (philippines) in singapore is S$ 800-900 a month :)What a joke :)

The post is Document Controler. Not a medical doctor

There are always openings for beauticians here. I don't really know if it's a good paying job. I think it depends on the salon.

That's a really really good salary for a simple couple so I think you can save a lot (definitely more than half your salary) considering the company will provide accommodation and transport.

By classes I'm not sure what you mean but yes there are short courses of AutoCAD, Accounting, Ticketing, etc. It depends on your wife's educational background and field of interest. There are driving schools here as well but I won't recommend driving here for the weak at heart.

For women finding jobs, I'm not sure about others but I'm really having a hard time finding a job. (I'm in the IT field.)

It might be easy if your wife is in the engineering, accounting, or medical field. Lots of companies want to hire family sponsored women to save on visa.

Lets see from this angle - 14K / 2.5 = S$ 5600 (at least 2 times pay in your home country. at least no Kiasu people here :)

Dear Yeo it all depends on individual.a comfortable life for you may be can be not for other individual.so any package, expense ,savings depends on the way he/she lives.a 14k basic may be ok for you but for an asian its a good package where as for an european its low or very less.Anyway you might have got some idea now.All the best..Welcome!!

You will save as much as 9 K of your salary. With 5 K you could live comfortabely as it is just you 2 . I am sure your wife could get a job if she is qualified and experienced. Welcome to Doha and Doha is a nice, safe and quite place .God bless

Hi

no offence Yeo but we have had a lot of these type of questions in the past week - please, I would suggest you do a little research on QL before posting.

Thanks.
