If you eat mix (4d-vegetables, 3d-meat) and purchase groceries from departmental stores such as Giant, Carrefour, etc. Every month they have offers, for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids your cost may vary between 1500~2500 riyals. Petrol is not that expensive, .8 riyals for super and .7 for normal i think, if u drive 400KMs per week, it will cost you 30~40 Riyals/week based on car condition. Water and Electricity may cost you 200~300(Winter) 500~700 (Summer) riyals/month.

A rough estimation is you can manage in 2500+(40*4)+700 = 3360 approx 4000 riyals very easily (covering some dinning out over the weekends).

Rest is upto your own expenses, like u may spend a 1000 riyals just only for your mobile phone. :)

Do a search. Somebody here (Novita???) compiled an exhaustive pricelist of groceries and put it up as a .xls attachment.

You have to tell the size of family for anybody to tell you the approximate cost.

I dont think you want to know the prices of every individual item or do you?
