Is cleavage at work a distraction?

Interesting article about women and clothing..

A recent claimed that women who display too much cleavage at work could end up sabotaging their careers.

The survey of 3,000 managers found that almost half of bosses had overlooked a woman for promotion if she had regularly worn low-cut tops to attract attention.

Would you agree with this or would it be the other way round ?

Read the article and give your views - sensible ones that is...

Sometimes when we have schools down at the shelter, we have Qatari girls arriving in their platforms, smart dresses, covered by abhaya... it got so bad that now when we make the bookings we give the teachers a rundown of what they must wear - abhaya is fine, but we insist on jeans and sportshoes...

Have you ever seen someone in platforms trying to walk a dog over very rocky area.... its quite a giggle....

It is a distraction and people should dress professionally. In our office it is a bit funny at the moment with two females looking to outdo each other in terms of provocative dressing. Something to look forward to everyday, who will look hotter today :-P

cleavage? my co-worker is dressed up rather wierd most of the time. Her tops are ridiculously open, so that you can see straps of her bra..and as nomerci noticed, 3/4 of her significant breasts are hanging out.. and you are talking about 'cleavage' :).. or she appears at the office in rather beach outfit (pants capris and t-shirt).. but...she uses her 'features' in other places for the business' sake, so the boss is keeping mouth shut...

I personally cannot respect people who are dressed inappropriate , irrelevant to the occasion/situation. It looks equally ridiculous when the girl in the nigh club is fully covered, so that her the blouse is buttoned to the end, up to her neck... or when the girl is visiting local supermarket, wearing full makeup, mini-skirt, evening top and high-heels shiny shoes.. or when people are wearing jeans in the theatre... or when ladies are hiking in abbayas... or when they are dressed like hookers at the offices.. One has to have a sense of what is appropriate in this or that situation, that's all..

its not necessary to dress like a hooker if u want to show ur cleavage some ladies wear executive dress and just unbutton the first three or two buttons of their shirt. and the rest can be explained by ladies who work in organisations.

There is a place for everything. and cleavage has no place at work, IMHO. I have to say though, I went to a few offices here in Doha...and Oh Dear! What some women wear, it is pathetic, no other words for it. Very large behinds clad in skin tight spandex, boobs almost hanging out, more make up than a circus clown...yes, those were women working in offices here...not hookers.

And they think they look great! why? Well, good question...maybe somebody is able to answer that question...I for sure am not.

As per the article, it seems clear that "some" women will use their features to try an move forward in the organization.

However, it is a double edged sword and can lead to ridicule from male and female colleagues - overshadowing the actual skills of the person..

I tried showing a little more cleavage, and my bosses do indeed keep staring at it, but so far no pay rise.

By anonymous• 15 Dec 2010 13:55

I don't think, and the article agrees, that showing too much cleavage gets women ahead. At least not in the Western world. Women have been in the work place long enough and been held as equals long enough now that bosses would view a woman who exposes herself too much the same as they would a man who dresses sloppily (or shows to much leg ;) )

What is cleavage at work?

I have heard about women working.......men working.... but a cleavage working is a new idea! If it is true may be it will increase the productivity of the women and will lead to a more successful career.

LOOKs won't do all the magic now..Brain will surely take over.If the big boss really do care for the business then he'll be smart enough whether to put a brainless-cleavage-woman to the pedestal nor to put a brainy woman instead who would surely excell & make better work for the company..

Men are not that stupid now, though they're still attracted to cleavage..
