City slogan for Doha

linc
By linc

Lots of cities have slogans or mottos for publicity (St. Louis--'Gateway to the West' or Las Vegas 'What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas'), but I have never seen one for Doha.

Any suggestions as Doha enters the world stage as it bids for the Word Cup? Both comic and serious suggestions welcome.

Good idea, Shapil..

And Xena, I will land back in Doha only by September... But no guilty feelings, as I am feeding someone almost every day...:-)

Now I am busy making goodies for my parents.. Leaving for home, day after tomorrow....

isn't the "Capital of Arab Culture" thing a rotating title as opposed to recognition of Doha for contributions to Arab culture?

in all seriousness what does doha contribute to either arab or world culture cuz petrol only adds to cash and carbon footprints. even the acclaimed museum was built by an american. i dont mean to hijack or bash, just curious what legit claim doha has to the title . . .

Not really a slogan, jackmohan2007; and not valid in a few months.

FIFA 2022 Bidding Nation.

It is nearly Ramadan. During this month, you can offer food to workers to break their fasts.

A gesture that will surely benefit them... God luck!

Doha--don't let the desert fool you; it's still humid.

God bless you linc, as rarely do I see some one speaking out for those poor guys out there...

It is my secret wish to have some of those guys at my dining table once a month...But I get a shiver thinking of someone misusing the freedom given once, and landing up at my door, some other time :-)

Wish there was a way out for it... If any one can organise something I can provide food for 20-25 guys at a time...with others sponsoring for more...

I call it "Curry Ministry" when I reach out to some pregnant lady with nausea, some bachelor guy who craves for some home made food, etc...

Oh.. the topic drifted away... Hope no one will call me a "hijacker" of posts...

Sure, professional workers get a good deal here, and I have little sympathy for those that complain beyond the normal amount of griping about working conditions, etc.. But there are way more laborers than their are of us.

Ok...Linc... thinking for the "TCN" workers makes sense, but not about the White collar workers...who do well here...

Qatar does not practice in the slave TRADE; but once workers are here, there is no denying that many are treated as defacto slaves with the violation of their human rights. Many have their passports taken and their freedom to return home taken away. If you want an example of this, just visit a construction site.

Show me one person who is in Qatar now, who was brought here by force to work for Qatar,by the authorities here and I can agree with you....

All this talk of slavery and free work, dont just make any sense...

Yes, concentration camp slogans are in poor taste, but I appreciate the stab at Doha's human rights record and something like: "Doha--the city where slaves are technically free' just isn't all that catchy.

Elegance you are addressing the wrong person ;)

I agree with mick's slogan, not his criticism of Dracula's.

Gkramer,I was aghast at Drac's statement too...Though I dont belong to the group sensitive to such slogans, I was quite upset as you can see from my previous post...I was fortunate to visit Dachau camp in Munich and it stays so fresh in my heart even after 8 years....

Your translation is not correct.

It means Work sets you free.

Literal word for word translation is "Works makes free"

It is a saying (in German) that is extremely offensive to many cultures, and should not be put on a open forum such as this. Particularly poor taste.
