City Center delays paid parking system
A notice board displaying the parking fees at City Center

By Peter Townson

A City Center official yesterday confirmed that parking charges for the shopping centre have been delayed due to further testing, and said the new date for the introduction of the fees would be announced in the coming days.
City Center director, Amer Sandawi, who previously told Gulf Times that the new parking system would begin charging customers yesterday, explained that due to the continued testing process, the introduction date has once again been delayed.
Parking fees will see customers charged QR2 for the first hour of their stay, followed by QR3 for the next two hours.  Additional hours will be charged at QR10, although Sandawi explained earlier in the week that a number of tenants will validate their customers’ tickets, and certain exceptions, such as cinema-goers, will get reduced fees.
The move to introduced paid parking has been met with a mixed reaction from customers.  However, Sandawi explained that the initiative has been introduced to solve problems associated with parking at City Center, which have been a serious issue for a number of years.
At the moment the system is in use, but when customers present their tickets at the exit booths, they are being ushered through free of charge.

alexmar, i havent been everywhere in the world but went to a few countries n they dont charge for parking except for a fewmalls, n yes the mall is a place of business n it is the responsibility of the business owners to make ur visit to their shops easy n comfortable as much as possible so u can come over n over again other than preferring to go somewhere else, so when they charge u money when u go in n buy their stuff, this is far from smart marketing

however city center in particular have a problem with ppl who go in to park their cars n never go upstairs to the mall, this is what they need to find a solution for, the easy solution would b to redeem ur parking fees for any purchase of above a certain amount anywhere in the mall

get a grip.. evey mall in the world you have to pay parking for.. and to those who say it's a 'public place' or a 'recreational area' NO IT IS NOT. it's a place of business.. and if the parking is full from people who just hang out and dont spend any money then they are losing customers.

I stopped to go City Center until free parking facility available, instead i will go villagio or Landmark... Free parking.  Why should i pay for parking. Paid parking is unnecessary.  In Dubai, they (carrefour) reimburse the parking fee after purchasing items from their outlets.  That system is good.

It will be implemented very soon, once they intercept the number of abandoned vehicles

I think they will also delay the World Cup 2022! Qatar is still in a 'testing' phase.

it would be good if the implementation was delayed until the opening of new doha international airport :p
