City Center Closed Until Further Notice
City Center Doha extends closure
The City Center Doha, which was expected to reopen today, will now remain closed until further notice, the management announced yesterday.
The shopping mall has been closed since June 15 on the order of the Ministry of Interior, for putting in place advanced safety, security and health measures at its premises.
“Due to fire and safety system upgrade, City Center Doha will remain closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused,” said a notice pasted yesterday near the entrances of the mall by the CCD management.
Sources at the mall said the company was adding several top quality safety features on the instructions of the civil defence officials, and the mall would be ready only when all such works were completed and inspections carried out by experts from the Ministry of Interior’s civil defence section.
It is learnt that tenants at the complex could visit the place and help in the inspection efforts, if asked to do so.
Two of Qatar’s major malls continue to be closed, with Villaggio being the first one, in the wake of the fire tragedy on May 28, which resulted in the death of 19 people, including 13 children.
However, other major malls have been experiencing heavy rush ever since Villaggio and City Center Doha, closed.

To day power off totally in ccq for 8 hours fro 2.15 pm
it will open on 27/6/2012
I'll believe it when I see it!
Thanks for the info!
I called one of the shops yesterday and they picked up the phone. They informed me that CC will open on Tuesday, 26 June. (Hopefully!)
They are also barricading the open parking that is behind the Bilal Tower. Many people used to park their vehicles and go to CC.
sad :(
all thanks to the Ministry for keepin this malls closed for these many days which ultimately diverts some people to my Emporium and i am havin good business now....:)
I'm good. The entry free is my boss' wedding gift to me....and the hubby will pay the monthly...so I'm good.
If they do...then hell hath no fury for a woman cheated...seriously :/
No wonder in Landmark there was heavy rush in the carre4 and food court and sale in BHs , in many of the outlets. i doubt if they will close that for inspection, once CC is opened.
Now that makes sense, pack everyone into landmark now.
some of them are not. if they haven't taken their annual leaves for the year, they get to have their full annual leave benefits. however, if they have gone on holiday earlier this year, they go on forced unpaid leaves. i heard that's the case for some mall employees. can't really blame the shopkeepers though because they have been suffering huge losses as well.
i hope i can fully support this and believe that this is really for everyone's safety. i truly hope this closure is necessary as there are a lot of livelihoods involved. i hope they're not just overreacting and implementing such drastic measures just so they can look like they're truly serious this time.
having a paid forced vacation!
they dont deliver it daily so whats the problem?
i am thinking of all those fruits, vegetables, meat..etc...Huge loss......
:(
let it remain closed. one more reason to spend less money.
hahahahaha .
sit at home
Well I am glad that they are no longer releasing unrealistic reopening dates. This needs to take as long as it is going to take. And at last that is what they are saying.
Who's keepin the small shops paid untill then?
Dang.... Now even the Coffee Shops are Full... :(
It's not just that. Where will I "hang out" and where will I eat KFC from :O(
Many are finding it difficult to carry their rather heavy purses which are not lightened routinely at malls..
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
What will I do now ?
