Chowking blame Civil Defense for not opening

Well it's not just the new airport. Chowking's new branch in Abu Hamour (or Dar Al Salam if you like) didn't open as scheduled today either.

I was really looking forward to a lovely Chowking meal this evening. But when I walked in I was greeted by the sight of a load of staff sat around looking very sad and board. I asked if they were open and surprise surprise they were not. I pointed to the huge sign in their windows stating that they were due to open today and they replied "Ah yes... it will be tomorrow now, we should probably take that down".

Chowking Coming to Abu Hamour

When I asked why they weren't open as expected, I was told that they failed to get Civil Defense approval today.

Now perhaps I am someone who is over cautious, and perhaps I over think things, but here is an idea for any new business opening up in Qatar. Regardless of whether you are a new international airport or a small restaurant or anything else for that matter; How about getting Civil Defense approval before announcing your launch date!

These notices are hysterical. TFS.

Aahhhh, I see. The timeline is:

April 1 - shop can't open because it didnt pass civil defense clearance.

April 3 - Civil Defence plans inspection of mall

So the restaurant didn't fail to get Civil Defense clearance; Civil Defense didn't do the inspection yet.

I think this may have something to do with it though

This was on the entrance window to the mall.

"Lovely Chowking meal" in Qatar is in itself a misnomer...I would'nt have any qualms for them not opening.

I am not saying they should skip checks and endanger safety. That would be the last thing in my mind. I am simply suggesting that it would have been better to have got CD clearance before anouncing an opening date.

At least they are bothering to do safety checks for a change. Be grateful. The rush to open without proper checks is what gets people killed.

They have to start operating first before they can shut them down. Maybe it has something to do with safety compliance.

Chowking is choking

How could Chowking not meet the standards?

They are in a mall that has been open for a year, that has other cafes that have bee operating for months, and there is a Carrefour that is doing a good trade?

I can't understand how there could be one shop in a mall of many that doesn't meet CD guidelines.

Chowking still not open a day after they were supposed to. They were advertising opening day as April 1st, yet here we are on the 2nd with a new sign on the door. I guess they still don't have Civil Defence clearance.

Did someone tell Civil Defense they weren't working hard enough or something?

.. or maybe the workers just learnt that they are not being paid decent wages and went on a flash strike

Are they going to serve fish with tofu? That is one of my favorites in Chowking.
