Chipped car wind screen

I drove along C ring road ... it was dead quiet ... no car in front and behind mine. Out of nowhere there was small stone flew and landed in my wind screen. Now I have this small stark crack (spelling?).

I want to replace it ... but when i go to the spare part shop ... it will cost me QR 1.082 for the new wind screen plus 250 QR for the labour cost. My car is 4 yrs old Hyundai Matrix, when i bought it only QR 40.000

My question are :
1. Do you think the insurance will cover the damage? There wasn't actual accident ... no other party involved.
2. I will need the police report. Where do i go? Can anyone give me the direction where is the nearby police station (I lived somewhere around gulf cinema traffic light).
3. My husband said i have to pay for the report ... is that true? And then what should i tell to the police officer? I am dreading doing this, people told me very seldom this police officer speak a decent english.

Help please ...

TIA

Kerrie edwards: here's an answer to your question. I asked the police (I was there because of my accident) and they gave me the following answer: all accidents are entered into a database as soon as the field police officer comes back to his office (i.e. same day). Which means all data about your accident is there. You have to go to the traffic police office, responsible for the place where the accident took place, and tell the investigating officer at the counter where it happened and at what time. He will then find your accident in the database, pull the info about the other driver and his insurance and print the report out. You get it stamped and can go to the other party insurance company (police will tell you which one, and it will be in the report anyhow, albeit in arabic). Since your car has been reared, there is no doubt who was at guilt, and presence of other driver is not required. They will fine him/his company separately.

From my (yet limited) experience today, a policeman arrived, recorded data of both of us, and told us to exchange phone numbers and agree when we should go together to the Airport traffic police station to file a report.

I am also interested what will happen, since I probably will be held at fault (my car was in the back), and my third-party insurance will be charged. I hope I won't have to do anything except for the report.

My husband was recently rear-ended by a truck. The damage is minimal but there is damage. He called the police and kept the third party on site. When the police arrived they checked the vehicles and told my husband to be on his way. He asked about a report in order to have the vehicle fixed and was told to go away.

Does he now need to go to the police station to get a report. If this is common practice it sucks as he did not take third party details - assuming the police would.

Can someone explain me where the Airport police is? I had a small fender bender and need to report there tomorrow.

panic over ... hubby's boss told us where to go and have the stark crack repair. No need for new windscreen, 4 mths guarantee.

Thank you for all the advice :-)

Hi, long time no speak!

If you have comprehensive insurance you can claim the insurance. You will have to pay the deductible though. However if you have 3rd party only you're out of luck as there was no other car involved.

You do have to file a police report and get a repair authorization certificate.

If you do need to go to the police contact me via email and I'll put you in touch with a decent officer at Madinat Khalifa traffic. That's where you'll have to go, or to the Airport branch.

Good luck.

Answers:

1. With a 4-yr-old car, the insurance company might pay part or none of the damage. Last year, when I took my 2003 Honda Civic in for repairs of a similar nature as yours (hit and run while parked), my insurance company (Doha Insurance) paid for all of it if we used non-Honda (i.e., generic parts). The insurance company had a list of approved mechanics, so I went to the mechanic on the list and he was quite reasonable.

2. I drove my damaged car to the big police station at Madinat Khalifa. This is on the north side of the road that links Burger King R/A with Immigration R/A. I entered the police station and explained what happened to the officer. One of them did speak enough English. He and I filled in a report. Then he went outside to inspect my car for damage. I took his report and headed to the insurance company. They inspected my car and took pictures of the damage.

3. I don't remember paying for the report. But I could be mistaken!
