Chicago deaths higher than Iraq

Some 65 American soldiers were killed in Iraq between the start of the Memorial Day weekend on 26 May and the end of the summer on Labour Day, 1 September.
However, 123 people were shot and killed in Chicago over the same period, a study revealed yesterday.

Brainwashed people who think democracy actually works!

Now come on how can you people vote for someone that you don't even know! Person can say anything but you really do not know their character in the least!

Now amen to the suggestion of spending our money reducing poverty and the medical system here in the US.

Well suicide is tragic I don't think it should be considered in the same stats as murder. So if you take suicide away the States comes number 4 after Estonia, Mexico and Brazil in overall homicide and number 3 after Estonia and Mexico in gun deaths....that's really not very promising.

Teen stabbed to death as rival gangs clash at partyPublished: Monday, 8 September, 2008, 02:35 AM Doha Time

LONDON: A teenager was stabbed to death after rival “postcode” gangs clashed at a girl’s birthday party, witnesses said. A gang of up to 40 youths, some armed with baseball bats and knives, fought running battles in the street in Sheffield on Saturday night, it was claimed.

Stabbing seems to be popular in Japan too. The question is how many MORE murders would there be every year if people did have access to guns.

If that were true then countries with strict gun control laws would have the same number of deaths as those with weak, and that's just not true.

Purchasing a gun should not be as easy as walking into your local K-Mart and picking out a semi-automatic rifle.

And Guns do offer a "detachment" from the killing, that makes it easier to kill people.

If people that own guns, 'control their guns', then there is no issue with 'gun control'. Guns don't kill, people. People kill people, some use guns.

When I went to Chicago about 5 years ago it was pretty impoverished even then, and it's next to some of the poorest places in America(Detroit) I'm not surprised gun deaths are that high. America needs to focus more on it's own weapons and less on other countries.

First of all, I'm still tryin to figure out the significance of this comparison. Can anyone help me?

Second, the figure of 65, is the no.of American soldiers who died in Iraq and not the total no.of deaths in Iraq in that time. Now, when u talk abt US soldiers in Iraq, they know and anticipate trouble and do everything possible to protect themselves, whereas the various killings across Chicago, I am quite sure, happened when the victims where least xpecting it.

I dont get the point in comparing armed personnel fatalities in one part of the world to civilian casualties in another part (even if both are citizens of the same country)? Is it to say that for an average US citizen, being a soldier in Iraq is safer than being a resident of Chicago? Bit too farfetched if u compare the percentages, no?

(Maybe my processor is runnin a bit slow today...shud go n catch some sleep, i guess ;)....)

Hi Alexa,

I honestly dont know why he picked Palin, it is a slap in the face to many of the more qualified and how should I say, not extremist, women in the republican party. I think he alienated many in his own party by picking her.

Infact, he had only met her one time before naming her as VP.

Did you hear her speech at the convention? It was filled with many blatant lies that the AP has uncovered!

Not exactly the cost of one year's worth of war in Iraq. As well as the tragedy of the lives lost, billions of dollars are spent/wasted on 'defence' (depends how you look at it)

Now if only all that money would be spent on healthcare or poverty in the US. That would really be awesome.
