It's been 2 months now and I've been trying to transfer my residency! I got all the papers, eventually from my police station back home, then dhl'ed it to the Embassy for atesstation, brought it to the ministry of foreign affairs and to my surprise, now they want all police clearence documents to be atessted by your own department of foreign affairs in your home country!
Has anyone had to do that lately, as they mentioned it has only been in law since the beginning of this year!
Why on earth would the department of foreign affairs be willing to attest an official document from the police and also stamped by their own officials (where i am guessing have authorization from them)? It just makes me so angry that all this work will have to wait just because they have no trust.
One of the reasons the woman at the MOFA said "Well, some embassies stamp these papers but don't do a background check on the recipiant". I'm sorry, but does that make any sense? The paper came from the POLICE, what other kind of background check do you want? Police would not give you a clearance if you had a record!!!
Has anyone faced the same or other situations like this recently???

Thanks Hamlet,

But I had the same document 2yrs ago and got it attested in another embassy here as we had no embassy in the region before last year! Yes I can understand that we want me to attest all my other documents, birthcert, uni papers, high school... etc... but a police record... i haven't lived in my own country for the past 18 yrs.

I went through the same a couple of years ago and as far as I remember I had to attest all the documents by the departement of foreign affairs back in my home country. So I guess this was the case long time ago and not from the beginning of the year as they are telling you...
