Cargo plane crashes near Dubai motorway

A cargo plane has crashed near a major motorway in Dubai, according to local officials and media reports.

There is no word yet on casualties.

The plane came down near the Emirates Road, setting some cars on fire, al-Arabiya television reported.

An official quoted by the channel said a fire had broken out in the plane as it attempted to land at Dubai airport.

the aircraft had departed DXB earlier and was some 120 miles away when the emergency started. They requested a return to DXB but with the first attempt to 12R they were high and had to go around. The fire escalated to the point where they could not see the instruments and were constantly asking ATC for headings and altitude dumping fuel at the same time. Aircraft crashed while maneuvering for another landing attempt. The UPS 744 has fire detection erquipment but no fire suppression. Sounds like the worst case scenairo for the pilots.

The aircraft B-747-400 571UP, was built in 2007 and crashed while takeoff from dubai international airport.

dubai is a developed state, they have the capability to withstand the disastrous situations...thank God rescue teams were on time to take control of everything...

The news piece in Gulf news has comments from a lot of eye witness of the incident. The plane only narrowly missed of the buildings they say.

The Boeing 747-400 crashed into the ground inside the fence of a military air base, reports say.
