Cancerous kitchenware banned..........Health alert

The UAE has recalled a brand of Chinese-manufactured kitchenware found to contain traces of a carcinogen - a cancer-causing substance - from store shelves in the Emirates.

‘Skimmers’ kitchenware was banned from the UAE market after the Consumer Protection Committee unit of the Ministry of Economy ordered the withdrawal of the products on Monday.

The ministry has called on the products’ supplier company Elements Middle East to discontinue its import and ensure that the products are recalled from stores, UAE daily Emirates Today reported on Tuesday.
Consumers have also been asked to avoid purchasing any product containing the carcinogen ethylene and to report the presence of these products in the market to the ministry.

The ban on Skimmers kitchenware is the latest in a spate of recent recalls of Chinese-manufactured products that have sparked concern over the quality of products made in the country.

Earlier this month US toymaker Mattel announced a third recall of Chinese-made toys, saying it would take back more than 800,000 units globally that contain "impermissible" levels of lead.

Mattel’s move came just weeks after the company’s announcement of two other recalls of millions of Chinese toys, due to excessive amounts of lead paint and other dangers.

Dubai-based Al-Shula General Trading Company - Mattel's agent in the GCC - said last month that 800 to 1,200 units shipped to the region had been affected by Mattel’s second recall.

Honestly, if we escape the risk of known or unkown diseases due to unknown reasons, then we would be very lucky.

The extent of cheating is unbelievable. And it is not restricted to China.

But now I wonder. How come you lived all that time in China and did not learn how to cook Beijing Duck.

Have a nice day.

I suspect the hardware (sockets, adaptors, door-handles & hinges..etc) are manufactured in Saudi......since most of the products here come from there.

even the Computer Power supply. I m familar with Chinese SMPS power supply (which are of much better quality), but the majority of the ones available around sofitel are definately not Chinese, although they are sold off as "chinese".

Chinese SMPS also do have "made in china" mark.

Sometimes i wonder why these companies cant ensure proper quality checking and stuff before they release a product into the market. Its not just the small brands either-places like Toys R us keeps recalling toys every now and then-saying they are "not safe for kids"!

Couple of years back-Mothercare called back baby teethers coz they contained some gel which was harmful for babies if swallowed-i fell this is common because no one really takes up the cause-i feel people should put up some kind of a resistance when they face such situations

sockets, adaptors, door-handles, hinges & even some toys..here are all duplicate.

The ones I have seen are definately not from China but from other unmarked country and so badly made that it can lead to fire due to sparks.

The green Plastic slippers available here are really slippery on wet floor. And are recommend for Skiing

Sewing Thread.....forget about it ...the quality is so low.

of faulty & dangerous Chinese products. Most sockets, adaptors etc. available here are Chinese, and I suspect the conformity logos on them (BS kitemark & CE for Europena standards) are just for decorative purposes!

thanks for this - and richer nations should throw the rubbish back at them because poorer nations can't.

Anyone remember the baby milk scandal?... it was fake crappy powder... loads of kids died in China.
