Canada best place for Fat People !

britexpat

I'm moving to Canada very soon......

Obese people have won the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada.

The ruling - which could have implications across the airline industry worldwide - means Canada's two largest airlines must give disabled and morbidly obese passengers an extra free seat on domestic flights, beginning in January.

The decision ended a six-year battle by disabled travellers to secure two seats for the
price of one if they need inflight attendants.

Overweight people can have two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, sparking a legal battle by the country's airlines
Obese people can also qualify if they are too large to fit in a single seat.

Air Canada and WestJet failed in their bid to get the Supreme Court to give them a year to implement the new policies, after failing to show that a 'one-person, one-fare' structure would cause undue hardship.

Under the ruling, airlines must develop procedures to assess eligibility.

Free seats need not be provided to obese people who are merely uncomfortable in their seats or are not disabled by their size, said the ruling.

And the airlines do not have to make allowances for disabled people who prefer to travel with a companion for personal reasons or those who require care on the ground but not in the air.

The reason I said that is bcoz I want to explore the world. I am a 34 year old single woman with no family in Canada. I have parents who are old and I want to be with them in their last days.. I hope and pray they have a long life but lets be realistic here.. Once they are gone, I would definitely end up staying in Canada rest of my life till I die in some old people;s home.. I have made a plan.. Go to Canada, live there for a few years then come back to the middle east, stay with parents till they are alive and then go back to Canada and die peacefully there.. But then, no one knows what is in my destiny.. My parents might outlive me who knows..

Kareena, this is QS point... you plan to live in Canada 'for a few years till I get the citizenship and even after I get the passport". You have no long term commitment.

It is actually better if you are one of the ones who buy property and pay taxes and live abroad, this means you are supporting the system but not draining it.

I am sorry, I hate to see my tax dollars go to someone who has no loyalty or commitment to the very country supporting them.

That is a good one indeed. Happiness.....

See I don't intend to cheat anyone.. I do plan to live in Canada for a few years till I get the citizenship and even after I get the passport.. I am not one of those people who buy a property in Canada and then work and live in the middle east while paying taxes and all in Canada to fool the government. I have stayed 28 years in a desert in plus 50 degrees.. I want to experience what minus 30 feels like and how it feels to live in a democratic country where everyone is treated equually.. Where you don't have to think ten times before opening your mouth lest u get deported... Where you can sue ur company if u feel there is some sort of partiality or discrimination...

Beela's comment reminds me of the following ..

On a visit to the United States, Charles de Gaulle was honoured at a banquet in the White House. Seated beside his wife was an official who spoke no French, but who tried to engage her in conversation by asking

"Madame de Gaulle, what do you think the most important thing in life is?"

"A penis", she replied.

Overhearing, her husband said gently "I believe, my dear, that in English it is pronounced "happiness".

There is no snow here at the moment and it is very sunny outside. I think the polar bears are all at the zoo.

There are so many misconceptions and stereotypes about Canada, especially about the weather. It's a huge country, and the climates vary depending where you are. What I like is in the summer the sun starts coming out around 4ish and it is still light well past 10pm. We get lots of sunshine!

I've never been to the Maritimes, but I just have to walk around for 10 minutes and will bump into someone who is from those provinces...they all left their homes and moved out west. Even the accents are changing here. It's very strange.

ops, i was not clear enough... i meant:

within the FIRST 10 years after getting a Permanent Residence Visa.

Lot of new immigrants, 'specially from the Middle East, NEVER live in Canada. They land, they get their ID card, and they leave the country. In three years they claim that they lived in Canada all this time and they apply for the citizenship. Or they live 3 years in Canada, they get a citizenship and they go back home or wherever. The new rules are not going to tolerate these people anymore. As the matter of fact, now the Immigration Office already asks for the REAL prove of relocating to Canada upon issuing the Visa. They don't accept "just claim" anymore. And they follow up and check WHERE you actually live after getting your canadian ID... so Kareena, again, i hope you and similar to you, whose clear intend is cheating the country, will never get the visa or will deprive of it very soon...

By qatarisun• 23 Nov 2008 22:18

Canada will ban people similar to Kareena very soon ..Authorities currently work on this project.

By the time you Kareena will have your Visa issued (IF!! I hope, NOT!), new law will be implemented, saying that if within 10 years you stay out of Canada for more than 3 years, your Residency (if you are still Resident) will be cancelled, and your citizenship (if you already got a passport somehow by lying that you lived there for 3 years) shall be withdrawn... and you and your family will be banned forever from entering Canada.

They also gonna check all these people who never ever lived in Canada, who has no clue about the country, and all they can say about the country is just keep repeating thier annoying refrain “it is cooooold in Canada”… and they will deprive such people of citizenship.

Kareena, are they westerners or naturalized westerners? Here in Qatar, a stone is still a stone no matter what box you put it in. Just having a western passport wont do you a lot of good if your education, english level and countries of residence dont match.

I went on an interview here in QP, and I was asked if I was a "real" Canadian or I just had the passport because they thought I was arab because I am muslim.

Did I read this correctly? The courts are allowing extremely overweight people (who are of course THAT fat through no fault of their own :?) a free seat based on discrimination. And of course once DVT sets in, the airlines will be sued for allowing them on in the first place! Its a mad mad world.

I suppose , Kenia's never been to anywhere in Canada, and is just playing an old annoying record...

I suppose the airlines will have to add a new booking class.. The old "f for First" will probably be known as "F for fat" now.

Kenya, of all the Canadian provinces NS has the most tolerable winter weather. I assume you have never been to the prairies, or NFLD.

I hope it includes during pregnancy too.

I always gain weight when I'm pregnant and the seats are so uncomfortable too.

Right on to the disabled peoples allowance. Its not exactly their fault they need extra support to go anywhere.

what ever ya do don't go to NS very, very cold in the winter. Good luck to where ever you move.

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

Hmmm...I never thought of Canada as being an overly obese nation.

brit, you cannot move to canada soon.. at lest not too soon. even thought we have the same queen, and even as a BRIT, you still have to go through the common immigration process..:)which is rather long..:)

Im no skinny bo anymore, but come on! If you cant get your fat ass in a single seat on plane...pay for a double seat or freight yourself in an Iso....

You have to pay full price for a child who is 2 yrs 1 day old, but 'Cartmans' left ass cheek goes free.
