Can I rent a car and how much it cost?

Hello all,

maybe it is not the right place for asking.

I'm close to moving to Doha, and the company offers me the change to choose a company car or an allowance.

Due the car they offer to me is not what I want (a 4 wheel drive) I'm thinking to take the allowance, put some money from my pocket and rent a car for long period.

Can I rent even if I'm not resident (I think became resident will require some time) ?

How much could cost rent e 4 wheel drive car, like a Ford one?

Thank you,

S.

Renting means do not think to insurance, maintenance and any other matter... I don't want to consider to buy a car in Doha... probably I will keep the company ones...

Hi Sasuke,

If you're seriously interested in driving a 4-wheel-drive, and are planning to stay for a while (a few years or more), you may wish to consider buying instead of renting. The cost of renting 4x4's is very high, even with the discount of a long-term contract.

Cheers,

Stacey

Personally i just rented a car 10 days ago without being a resident, Fatcat prices are more accurate for month to month basis, a 4x4 would cost minimum QR3000,

The company from where i rented confirmed that my international driving license is only active for 14 days from day of landing in Doha, however i have an additional Emiraty driving license which am able to drive with till i get my residency papers done.

I advise you to have a ride on highways with someone residing in the country prior to going on the roads directly, as you might be shocked how some people are drivinig, am not making this hard but the way cars are driven is different from what you might be used to.

You can rent a car if you're not a resident, but you must have a driver's license (obviously).

The prices given by Qatarisun are for long term rentals, i.e. 6 months or more. Short term rentals, i.e. on a month to month basis are more expensive, you'll pay at least QR1800 for a small car like the Chevrolet Aveo.

i can tell you a cost. it will start somewhere from QR 1500 a month for the small car, like Reno Cleo. Something like Honda Civic will cost you about QR1800 and so on...

but i cannot tell you whether you will be able to rent the car while you are not a resident. I guess, you can try to find such company, if you at least have a credit card that they can charge monthly...
