1) Yes there is cable - its QCV; largely most appropriate is MVDS

You get different channels retransitted from Paid Satellie Provided mainly:

Showtime

Orbit

ART

Star

TV Series - America Plus, Paramount Comedy, Star World, TV Land and (BBC Prime and UKTV being English) including the reality TV, Desperate, Sex and City etc ...

plus more 7/8 movie channels, 6 sport channels, 4 maybe Discovery Civ type channels,

The only thing I think it is lacking is music channels only got 2 crap ones.

Then you can get satellite, there are 800 free2air channels, only a few you'd be interested in probably with many channels having erotic content of some sort 24/7 which is what perplexes me with movie censorship.

I have also seen Sex and City type DVDs in rental places e.g. family food and can be bought at Qatar Duty Free too.

There isn't cable service per se in Qatar. The local communications company, Q-Tel, receives certain channels and rebroadcasts them as part of its package for people who don't have or don't want satellite.

Their broadcasts of certain channels have a 30 minute delay to censor anything inappropriate, ie nudity.

You can watch some of these shows on satellite. One TV, broadcasting out of Dubai, had the Amazing Race and American Idol. They haven't broadcast the Race again and they're very erratic. They had the Sopranos and dropped it after one year.
