Two people were killed and a third was critically injured in an accident on the Salwa Road yesterday. The deceased were brothers and belonged to a GCC member country. They were coming to Doha from the Abu-Samra border post when the tragedy occurred. Sources said the driver lost control over the vehicle and crashed into roadside barriers. Ambulances and traffic police rushed to scene. “However, two of the passengers were already dead and the third who was in a critical condition was transferred to the hospital ,” sources said.

After all said and done why are we not out campaigning to get strict laws in place for the roads. Qatar is getting all these major business and world competitions yet the road practices and death toll is shocking. Is it going to take a major and i mean major pile up before changes take place. Yes road accident are common in various countries but this is ridiculous. Are the authorities waiting for someone in the public eye to be killed on these roads before something is done.

I agree with LP. Death as a result of willful negligence is not an accident.

If it is any asian involve in accident police report will be overspending or reckless driving. This is my observation base on there news reported.

Rest in peace for them.

This is repetition reminder for anyone who drive their car.

I agree that the local press should be better at reporting. However, they can only report facts and should not speculate.

The accident happend yesterday. So, it's up to the police to determine the cause and then teh press can report it.

I think it is quite ridiculous how the local press deals with these things!

Is someone offering odds and running a book on what happened? Why all the speculation? At least on this occasion no 3rd parties were killed or injured and that is all that matters to me. Do I think reckless behaviour caused their deaths? Well yes I must admit I do suspect it. But come on all this trying to guess what happened is ridiculous.

You tend to excuse everything as an "accident", brit. If you drive too fast, or if you break the traffic laws, it's not an 'accident' anymore. It's the punishment for wrong-doing. And therefore, it's okay if you pay the price!

May they rest in peace.

Does it really matter what the reason was ? It's a n accident. two people died..

Maybe they were just driving too fast and lost control.....the same as most of the crashes in this country.

Here we go again, another tragic story (similar to the story last Sunday and the wwk before).

I do not know the circumstances but it could be 1) overspeeding, 2) problem with the tyre, 3) falling asleep or 4) playing with the mobile.

I can not count how many times I saw the mighty white landcruiser 'flying' on that highway. Look at the silent marks just after the speeding cameras.

Even overtaking on the '5th' invisible lane at the left side is common.

the road from abu samra to salwa is very wide and speed limit is also 120 which is fun for most of the drivers and they easily go upto 140+ whereas on this road number of trucks & trailers are high thn of motorcars...!!
