Update : QLer Ojo sends in this video and reports that all residents are okay!

As reported on Twitter:

Mansoura najma area. People trapped on top of building but fire services rescuing one by one. Smoke pouring out of some windows.

Pray that everyone is okay. Can any QLers tell us more?

it is suffocation that led all those unfortunate people to throw themself from the WTC. too sad.

in fact dino, the wall painting can burn at higher temperatures (more than 800 C). that's why i asked should we open rather than close when against contained indoor fire.

drsam, there are actually lots of combustible materials inside our houses like our sofa, curtains, clothes, cabinets, papers, etc. and there are also lots of causes that could start a fire like faulty electrical wiring, overheated A/C's and electric fans, leaky LPG tanks and unattended cigarettes to mention some. So let's all be careful especially to those who are living in accommodations with no fire/smoke alarms and no emergency/fire exits at all. And one more thing, it is not only the fire than could kill us, but more of the suffocation from smoke. So let us all be SAFE.

should doors and windows be opened in case of fire or do the opposite one should try to cut air from it by closing doors?

the reason i'm asking is that all the researchs i made point to giving air to an indoor confined fire in order to lower its heat. while the common concept is the opposite!

to hear the ideas and opinions of Qataris. One of the big complaints I hear is that so many people feel they don't have the chance to meet and talk to Qataris. It's just that you can probably set a more positive tone.

It's nice to hear of your personal connection to the event. It's a job well done that no one was seriously hurt :-)

KHATTAK, they are. Both my brother and my cousin are firemen. Only Qataris can be in the Police, Firefighters. Now please don't talk about what you don't know.

PM I'm not sorry I'm just shedding light on the other side of all these discussions since it's always expats speaking about us Qataris.

Funny from reading on QL I thought Qataris were lazy and didn't care about anyone but themselves but here we are, Qataris risking their lifes to save these people.

Now let's see who started the fire......

All residents reportedly ok. I was told by one tenant who lived on the top floor no smoke/fire alarms went off, he just 'smelled the smoke'.

i saw the building concerned at around 11.15pm. there are so many people around it and a long ladder is extended to the highest floor. The building has no power. Though I was not able to see any fire at that time.. I hope that no one is hurt.
