BRAVO, Qatar Police

I went to Souq Waqif several nights ago and found that the entrance in front of Fanar was opened. I directly drove my car in & park on the ex-souq Ahmad area (along with several other 5-6 cars there, as the access to parking area was closed by portable fence). Then I left into the souq.
After several minutes, when I was in the souq my phone was ringing, and person on the other side told me that my car parked on the wrong location & I should remove it from there. Without asking who was on the line, I just immediately left the shop towards my car & found 3 police officers with traditional police uniform were standing next to my car. When I approached my car, one of them asked me my name, then politely he request me to move my car from there as it is prohibited to park there and they can put a parking ticket on my car. First thanks.

I start my car and try to leave the area to the street thru the way I entered earlier, but just on the small intersection inside one of the police opened the portable fence & allow me to enter the parking area. This second thanks shock me, as they can just leave me leave the area to the road instead of open the fence & let the parking violator like me to park properly???

So incredible, first they did not put a parking ticket on my car, second, they called me to move the car, third, they open a closed access to allow me to park properly.

What an excellent good cop they are.
I don't think I can find such an excellent police attitude except here in Qatar.

HH, You are spot on. These bad policies will make all the good work done by the country.

There was no language problem at all. You don't need much skills to understand 'GO' with a hand showing a direction towards the exit!

I hear you, once bad experience can actually erase all the good, sometimes.

I doubt there was a language problem that caused your friend the inconvenience.

HH,Noted you point. But what happened to my friend in Wakif, will undo all good thats said about them. Qatari culture was thrown out of Wakif..

Most of them are considerate and gentlemen, even when they're issuing a ticket or wanting to stop a car for checking.

I think they’re too kind to the extent they’re not deterring traffic violations as should. Or is this not a fair statement?

More read.

Frankly speaking. Qatari police officers are very polite, kind, respecting, and professional. this is from the last 7 years I spent here.

I have parked in the same location once before. and left my wife and kid in the car. then I received a miss call from my wife, went to the car to find a police officer asking me to remove it. my wife told me the officer came near and when he found a lady in the car with no driver, he felt shy, but she understood and made the miss call.

I really say again...Thanks a lot to all of them.

Maybe because that should be obvious that you don't block the entrance/exit.

It's true that had working hadn't killed anyone yet, but why to take risk?

last time we parked at the first floor parking area of city center in front of one entrace...traffic police put violation sticker to our car... we were upset because we did not even find one signage "NO PARKING" on it

im not even a qatari. Im from a country where alot of them here became a lower paid worker (guess what? but not nepali). They got my mob from the plate no. So ensure that you give the right mob no. when u register your car. It'll useful if u r in this situation or perhaps in emergency

Zaen, if you were away from the car for longer, you would've found a nice round sticker on your car window...:)) you're lucky.

Mandilulur, yes I agree, traffic police in Wakif are extremely polite and friendly, also those in downtown and Corniche as well.

Hooray for "Officer Friendly!" The souk/tourist police do seem very pleasant but this is above and beyond. Mabrook.
