Boy injured - Pencil punishment

s_isale
By s_isale

Reports about a young
boy being badly assaulted
by a private school principal
have once again brought to
the fore the issue of corporal
punishment which is banned
in Qatar.
Despite the ban, such incidents
are reported in the country
almost every year. Experts
attribute the repeated instances
of spanking to a severe lack of
training and awareness among
the teaching community and parents.
Besides being often beaten
up in school, children are also
considered most vulnerable to
domestic violence.
Parents of the Grade Two student
have filed a complaint with
the police seeking action against
the principal, who allegedly
stabbed the boy with a sharpened
pencil several times, injuring
him in his arm, hand and
the back.

Fubar, seems like you're not getting my point here. Is this QATAR or the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?

Having said that, you can borrow my pencil if you want, and bust this child's myth with your forearm, see what happens and then let us know.

This is not corporal punishment. This is clear abuse and the principal must be called out and severely punished.

Well, with how things are done here, it could be anything...anybody's guess is as good as the next person's.

That's why I was thinking nomerci. Kid gets bullied by another kid at school and then blames it on abuse on the part of the principal rather than telling the truth.

I would be very surprised if the truthful version of this story bears much relation to the story that is being told to the newspapers.

From what's being reported, the student was in Grade 2, and there are no other witnesses to the incident. So basically the principal of the school is being tried in the court of public opinion based solely on the testimony of a pre-pubescent boy.

Maybe it is the same kid that was allegedly kidnapped by one of those nasty expats.....

True Mike. Where has he been?

Because I read a story about how in America kids have sex with their teachers in schools, so people should stop making insults about Qatar because Qatar isn't as bad as the west where everyone is an alcoholic who eats pork and worships satan and......

Personally the whole story sounds a bit suspect to me. It would be pretty hard to break the child's skin, as claimed, using just a pencil. And even if you did I can't imagine the child bleeding everywhere as the Peninsula version of the story would have you believe. I think it sounds like a load of BS on the part of the kid. But maybe I have too much faith in the local teachers.

Wow...and to think parents entrust their children's safety to such monsters is scary. Hope she is dealt with well and kept far away from children till she's all cured!

Some teachers truly lack even basic decorum. My daughter had a bad fall in school the other day whilst running with her friends and was told by her teacher "Very good"(as in serves you right) and "You are killing yourself" I mean like Hello! the kid is six years old..she's killing herself cos she runs and plays with kids at playtime? Seriously? I can understand saying something like "be careful next time" or "look where you are going" anything but "you are killing yourself"!!

Happens far too often. Reminds me of this bully teacher (mathematics no less) in 3rd grade with a vendetta against me to the extent that he caned me even for being left handed wtf lol. As a quiet and shy kid i suffered for months until my dad noticed my gradual slide into silence and asked me in bed one night..i broke and told him about all the whackings haha. Next day papa darling showed up unannounced during math class and boy oh boy did it rain on that teacher lol. My dad was a hero to the class for setting him straight and needless to say he didn't bother me again. I still give my Dad a kiss every time I remember that year lol. I hope the teacher here gets stabbed and with her own pencil lol. To the boy: "I feel you buddy":-)

As Miss Mimi says - this is a case of abuse. I do believe in allowing teachers to discipline students - but this is going too far ..

If she thinks it's an appropriate way to treat children it obviously DID do her harm.

By timebandit• 5 Dec 2011 08:32

She will claim her parents did it to her, and it didn't do her any harm.

Stabbing a child with a pencil and burning your own child's hand isn't corporal punishment it's abuse. She should be arrested and her children taken from her.

if you read the full article in peninsula - you can see the principal claim that she has burnt her son's hand for doing some mischief.....If she can be so cruel to her own son, then less said the better.....

An inquiry will find the boy stupidly fell repeatedly against the teachers pencil, causing a broken lead. The parents will be made to buy the teacher a new pencil.

I think the major issue is that corporal punishment in schools IS still allowed in many countries (I know it's still legal and practiced in South Korea for example) so if the teachers & principals come from these countries and backgrounds, then they will automatically revert to corporal punishment in certain situations, regardless of the laws.

This is crazy. How on earth can it happen in Qatar. I hope the principal would not get away with his crimes.
