LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Bitter experience at Traffic Dept

Dear Sir,
I had a bitter experience with the Traffic Department over a parking violation which they claim was committed by me.
On August 31, 2010, I received a Metrash SMS saying that my car had been booked for a traffic violation. I went to the Old Airport Traffic Department office to get the details. I was sure that I hadn’t done anything wrong on the day specified.
But to my surprise, I was told that I had left my car in a no-parking area near Rayyan/Wajba petrol station at 10pm on August 30. The strange thing was that I had not been in that area on that day. I had gone to the Dafna area on that day to drop one of my friends at his work place.
I was directed to go the Madina Khalifa Traffic Department centre which, in turn, asked me to approach the Lakhwiya (red uniform police) section.
A Lakhwiya officer told me to produce evidence that I had not left the car in the no-parking zone on that day! How could I do that?
I have been visiting the Lakhwiya office for months now but without any success.
I could have paid the fine of QR500 and ended all this charade. But I thought it would not be proper as I would be paying fine for a mistake which I was sure I had not committed.
I wonder how many of my fellow drivers might be suffering due to such errors. I am sure that I became a victim because of the error in noting down the correct number of vehicle which had made the violation.
I request authorities concerned to open a grievance centre regarding traffic violations so that motorists can make an appeal in similar cases.

Ignore the time of the ticket, it is never correct, especially for mobile radar stations (car parked on side)

Apparently the system requires repeated setting, which they did not find it necessary.

same thing happened to my husband, got 500QR fined for the violation of OWNING MORE THAN ONE LICENSE FROM THE SAME CLASS. First of all, we have only one car and they are claiming it was caught at Wakra area at 6 am, We live in Aziziyah and my husband works in Industrial area so how can that be?

They are also asking for an evidence that my husband didn't commit it.

My car was parked for over a month at my home while I was out of the country. When I came back I saw that it was caught by a speeding camera on Dukhan road while I was away. Nobody in my family drove the car, it was there all along gathering dust. Point is, caps can read rada pictures wrong or can make a mistake with the license plate number. Ask to talk to the lekhwaya guy's boss.

I had similar experience , the Traffice department says i stopped the car in C ring road obstructing the flow of traffic and causing dangerous situation when i was unloading. I am not a Truck or Pick up driver and i have a passinger car and i never stop in C ring road through i drive through this road. I went to the traffic they say may be you over speed , i asked them why dont you state that , they say go to the Main traffic department. I was SICK about the way this is handeled and i concluded PAY THE FINE may be the salary you get is all paid to accomodate all such hardships. God bless

Evidence is supposed to be provided by the accuser, not the accused

You can ask to Lakhwiya officer to show the evidence to prove that you had left the car in the no-parking zone.

The proof...

Was a sworn affidavite from your friend stating you were in Dafna at that time.

Guilty until proven innocent

In such cases the cops need to take a picture as well of the offending cars just to be SURE.
