Remittances and bank draft are 2 completely different things which I think you are mixing up. Again, if you know a bank that does bank drafts for vetween 4 and 10 QR riyal please do let us all know. Why dont you call up Doha bank and ask them how much a draft is, not a remittance.

A remittance is a transfer from account to account, a bank draft is an actual piece of paper, pre-paid and guaranteed by the bank to be remitted to a third party bank in the name of the beneficiary. I think I have already said this.

The problem with your remittance wasnt Doha banks error, it was yours. If the bank you were remitting to changed your account number without telling you then it is their fault.

better to get loans and CC to the bank where your salary account is, usually they are adjusting their collection due date base on your salary date.

Remittance policy I am afraid.

I am quite surprised by how little people actually investigate the methods they use to manage money.

Azam if you have a bank that charges only QR 4 for a bank draft please let me know.

No, it isnt 4 QR for a bank draft and it is not at all like writing a fresh cheque to the bank. A Bank draft is a third party pre-paid cheque drawn from a bank (which is guaranteed) to another bank in the name of the beneficiary. Bank draft fees differ from bank to bank but are around QR 50.

This is correct Azam, and they cannot convert into a bank draft also as this requires additional payment, which more than likely (if you check) would be nmore than the exchange loss.

Azam the problem with online remittances is that you are the one solely filling out the remittance forms. If the remittance is returned it is either due to your faulty input or a problem with the bank the draft was issued to. If you read the policy for remittances it says the bank is not responsible for such errors, and as your account is QR account they cannot keep the money in another currency and at the same time tie it to your account. Bank drafts are much different as they are a form of pre-paid cheque which can only be cashed by the beneficiary.

No, I am not a banker but when it comes to my money I do indeed read the fine print. To date I have never lost a single penny in such transactions. _____________________________________________________

they offered no service, they just started charging us. it was a surprise for us.

we are dealing with it, just pointing out how long it is taking so in my case at least the bank is in no position to be lecturing anyone about late payments etc.

i agree with you in principle, but the banks can be just as bad.

my company uses a bank, and i use the same one for my own account. this bank charged my company account for a monthly service that we did not use. the first month we told them, and then again in month 2, so we told them again, and then again in month 3, and so on for about 6 months. a year later and we are still asking for one of these charges to be reversed.

same on my personal account.

the bank did not offer me interest on the funds they removed from my account, but i bet they would be pretty quick to charge me interest if i was one day late on my credit card payment.

also, i think banks have an ethical obligation to highlight main points/issues in a loan contract. those things are pretty wordy and for many people it is difficult to understand them. i know that technically they are not breaking any laws, but i don't think it's right if the bank does not highlight all potential issues to unsuspecting clients.

Sorry Arch, I cant agree with you. If you are not holding up your end of the bargain by paying your bills on time (note: banks dont care where the money comes from, they care that you meet your obligations) then alls fair. Bill collectors in the West are far more aggressive.

If you want to stop the "threat" dont borrow money from banks and keep your money at home under your mattress.

All Banks will treat you badly , also they don't admit mistake. Particulary IBQ is one the useless banks they lost my fileconsquently they blocked the cheques and after not even a single apology from the employee who has done the mistake he just has an error in reading the account nr. moreover shouting on the phone.

By Amoud• 6 Apr 2009 11:51

I totally agree CS, customer service does need improvement as well as making banking a bit more efficient by clarifying practises and such is a must but I cannot sympathize with people complaining that the bank is hassling them because they are behind in payments or because they fail to read loan terms and such and are then surprised when the bank implements what was signed in their loan contract.

You r right Amoud, moaning about banks especially when you are not doing your own job properly is not nice but if the bank officials are not professional in their deals or taking long time then promised then we should look at the matter.

*Sigh*

When your bills are due back home do the institutions still not expect payment? Does your credit rating not reflect if you are late in payments or delinquent? If you have agreed to pay something on a certain date why are you not obliged to pay as you have agreed?

I dont get all the moaning about banks to be honest, they are not charities and while CSR are important so is holding up our end of the bargain. _____________________________________________________
