Bali 9 - Should they be executed ?

OK.. Nothing to do with Qatar, but interesting anyhoo.

The Bali 9 (nine Ausies arrested and convicted of trying to smuggle heroin valued at around 3.1 million US dollars from Indonesia to Australia.

Since 2006, there have been legal appeals as to whether they should be executed or given life sentences.

The condemned Bali nine ringleaders, Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, were yesterday given formal notice to be prepared to face firing squads in as little as 72 hours.

The nine will be executed within days as Indonesian President Joko Widodo refuses to intervene or show mercy based on his hard-line belief that the deaths will carry meaning in his country’s war on drugs.

Many are asking for clemency..

So, my question: Having been convicted through trial for this offence. Shouldn’t the death penalty be carried out ?

Actually I don't give a damn on the culprits. They knew what they were doing. But governments who kill, sorry, execute, are also a disgrace to the human race. And that includes The USA as well.

Oh, sorry, you didn't kill, you only executed.

Sulieman, and if you execute someone, someone else has to execute you, because you killed.

No, they don't, because they make big revenues from taxes on alcohol and tobacco. They are only p.i.s.s.e.d. because the drugs are not under their control and the can't claim taxes.

britexpat ,, Indeed

Wild Turkey ,, You are really wild, they may killed or will kill people who have the right to live, so they lost theirs!

And when it comes to children it's the responsibility of the parents to educate their children so they don't fall for the trap of the drugs. Blame it on the parents. And let adults do what they want. Alcohol is as bad as marijuana or cocaine. Do they execute beer brewing companies? Or cigarette companies?

Nobody has the right to kill a human. Not even a government. They are only humans, too.

Just watch the news. the media is going overboard. You would think they were heroes , rather than drug smugglers

another thing:

thousands of people die every year from drugs overdoses and nobody gives a sh!t

and now 2 drug smugglers get death sentenced and everyone loses their mind

what a Hypocrisy!

When someone kill someone else and there is death sentence

why shouldn't someone who kills so many people to face the same thing? yup

As a parent, this was one of my major concerns when my children were studying especially in the country I come from. These people destroy the lives of families if they succeed in getting an offspring get hooked onto drugs. The action of governments send a strong message to others who may be planning to join this business, and make it difficult to obtain drugs easily. Otherwise humans will not survive while such people will be basking in wealth.

knor: I would tend to agree with you. Drugs destroy lives and traffickers must be made an example of.

my two cents worth of opinion here: If these individual are really convicted beyond reasonable doubt. it is just and right to execute them so to eradicate those kind of people ruining the future of others life.

Big fish / politicians push the innocent youth onto this self health spoiling way ........... ....... proper skill / employment is not available for the youth ...... but everybody needs some money for surviving ............. so the poor souls are driven by the circumstances into drugs comsumption / selling ...... & end up in jails ...........

These 9 guys can be role model for the coming generations ....... youth will learn from them that how a choice of wrong path can lead you towards meaningless life behind bars ...... .......... I suggest they may be trained in the professions of their interest like mechanic / electrician / painting / tyre puncture shop / entertainment industry - movies etc .. .............. arrangement must be in place for their marriage & responsible life with kids ...................

Let them work hard under supervision for the rest of their lives. This will serve the community and they will have a lot of time to think about their deeds.
