I remember seeing ASUS laptops at PC One store on the Salwa raoad. Also if you wanna have comparitive prices, check www.bestbuy.com, apparently ASUS is doing pretty good in the US and cheap as well.
I personally don't think the brand name and in-built hardware compatibility could enhance a laptop's speed by more than 5%, whether its a Vaio/HP/Toshiba/Asus, as most of the components they all use is the same (i.e. Processor). However, the durability could be an issue. A HP / Toshiba or Vaio is way better in durability than an Acer. Last week I picked up an HP notebook Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4 Ghz processor with 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 250 GB HDD, Finger scan login, NDVIDIA dedicated graphics adaptor for just 5,299/-. If the difference is only massive you may go for ASUS or an Acer.
Actually it's for my cousins and he will be using it just for saving pics and presentations. No heavy processing would be done. In the Phil. its worth 16K pesos and he's thinking that it might be cheaper here.
you won't believe it i swear to god. I got one here in a school where am i working and i saw this for the first time. Too small and white, but it is really bad :( the performance is no good at all. The manager of the school got it from Thailand for 1500 Q.R only ..
The Hard disk is 4GB only, 512KB is the RAM.

that is why I told you ... the performance is really so bad. You did not ask what can you do with a '4' GB Hard Disk :)
