DOHA: The Al Asiri underpass on the D-Ring Road and the two bridges that link with Al Asiri-D Ring Road are ready for opening. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is expected to open the underpass and the bridges for traffic early next week, sources told The Peninsula yesterday.
“The structural work on the project have been completed. What remains is interlocking and landscaping works, which could be completed at any time. We have been informed by Ashghal that the project will be opened before the 25th of this month,” an official from the QBC-Terna, the Qatari-Greek Joint Venture Construction Company involved in the project told this paper.
The project covers approximately 6km and links Obaidly Roundabout to Tadamun and Khalifa Al Attiyah Roundabouts. The work consists of construction of a three lane carriage way in each direction with service roads on both sides and two parallel overhead bridges.
The project links the Al Asiri Interchange, Khalifa Al Attiyah and E-Ring Interchange up to Al Muntazah Street. It includes construction of a three-lane dual carriage way with service roads on both sides and two parallel bridges of 299 metre and 249 metre respectively with a two-lane dual carriage way.
This is in addition to construction of a 429 metre underpass, of which 94 metres would be covered. The project has service roads on both sides, two multi-level Interchanges in addition to the development of the network infrastructure and landscaping.
The work is being carried out by the Ashghal in 13 different phases. The Al Asiri-D Ring project forms the part of the Phase IV of Ashghal’s ambitious Doha Expressway Project. The other three Packages of the ambitious project include February 22 Interchange and Al Amir Street (Phases I & II) and Industrial Interchange (Phase III). The Industrial Road project phase covers a stretch of three kilometres, linking the Industrial Interchange with the 33 Street (Muntazah Street). The F-Ring Road, another phase of the Expressway, extends along 10km and connects Al Muntazah Street with the New Doha International Airport (NDIA).
The G-Ring Road Project, also part of the Expressway, covers 19km and connects the new Express Road 55 and the New Doha Port.
The multi-billion riyal Doha Expressway is a mega road project aimed at linking the north and south of the country through Doha.
...they didn't finish the opposite ends YET!...so how can you enter the underpass if the 'entries' are still under construction?

Well, that might relieve the traffic at Ramada junction a bit then. :o)
When they closed that road sometime 2005, I was still residing at South Madinath Khalifa and I had to suffer a long drive if I wanna go to the Airport.
Is that 3 years already?
NO.. They are joking....

Khanan should be thanked for all his hard work...:)
I wonder if the opening ceremony can be led by a Pink KIA ?
Coming from the Airport on D-Ring, you get to the Mall R/A, then a second R/A, this the closed area after the third or fourth R/A, to the interchange before the Al-asiri Interchange (FORMERLY MIDMAC R/A) on Salwa road.
Baldrick I think it will from the around Birla School up to the Asri Interchange..thats it..may be up to the soudan or smelly roundabout lets wait and see..

baldrick - I think this is referring to the bits of D-Ring road that cross Salwa road and Al Wabb (villagio) street. I could be wrong though.
the bridge before the mamoura signal..
rms..!!
Can someone put this into perspective for me? Which stretch of D Ring are we talking about here? Any landmarks? as I have little clue about districts and street name!
We cant beleive.... we may for the time being think it will be little relief to drive... but for sur eagain.. some reason the road will be closed for another 2 years...
I agree with hassan1024, they'll probably do what they did in 2006, opened it for 2 weeks for the Asian games, and then closed it and dug it up.
What remains is interlocking and landscaping works, which could be completed at any time.
"which could be completed at any time" - what a great phrase that is!
no doubt they'll dig it up again within a month for some reason or other...
About time.. finally the rush infront on my house will reduce due the rat runs..
