Arguments for prostitution

timebandit
By timebandit

Ok lets fire up a Sunday morning discussion.

The arguments for prostitutions (no not here in Qatar) in certain countries could be:-

1. Safer environment for workers
2. Cleaner environment for workers
3. Health Care for workers
4. Safer, cleaner environment for customers
5. Reduction in sex crimes outside of the profession as well as in (is this true)
6. Gives the ability to make money from your best attributes just the same as an athlete or a scientist
7. Removes pickup spots from residential areas
8. Reduces policing costs to the public
9. Reduces broken marriages (both from customers getting convicted and found out, and where the bedroom may be a problem for some couples)
10. Loyalty point scheme could be introduced

What are the arguments against?

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 21:13
anonymous

It is not going to go away if you make it legal or keep it illegal. There are always going to be people who want to/need to pay for sex and there are always going to people who want paying for it.

End of story.

akosiekaburgos That exactly what I trying to tell you.. Leave Jesus Christ out of this discussion.. But I like your detailed version of this act in the bar. Could you tell me where this bar is please as me and BritExpat get bored overed the weekend with nothing to do.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 12:14
anonymous

akosiekaburgos did you really have to go into that much detail here about the stripping?

And what is this statement supposed to mean?

wk its simply because its not legal thats why it survived a thousand years.

So you think making it legal will abolish prostitution once and for all???

Well we should definitely legalise it then ASAP

oh oh my bad pilgram i didnt know :) mee toooo before we went to one bar in our country its a decent actually, live band singing but i was so shock when this 2 person went up the stage and dance while the 4 were singing and the 2 person the girl and a boy are stripping their shirts while dancing then they went down the stage and dance in a table at the end the guy remove and bra of the girl and he laid down the girl were he suck the girl breast.. i wass like oohhh myyy gawwwddd... we ask the bartender why they have this kind of show, they said that every friday night they have a nice show :)

britexpat

Are you talking about the Chippendales ?

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 12:05
anonymous

I don't see how the legal status of prostitution is related to marriage..

The "clients" are not that bothered if it's legal or illegal.. How has it survived for thousands of years??

Legal status will change the state of the prostitutes who are being exploited and forced into this profession..

There was an incident in Dubai in 2007, 3 or 4 prostitutes who were kept locked inside his apartment by their pimp died in a fire because they couldn't escape as the apartment was locked and the pimp was away... Maybe such incidents won't happen if it is legalised...

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 12:04

Nope. No touching...I'm trying to remember the name of that dance troupe...they used to go around to the bars...I wanna say something with Pepper in it?

I'm a woman ako, therefore I would have to do this from the point of view of my husband visiting a prostitute. In which case I'd kick him to the curb. Having sex with anyone would be cheating, regardless of whether or not they are a prostitute.

However a single man or woman visiting a pro....well not my cup of tea but to each their own.

akosiekaburgos I like your signature. Husband loves your wives, like Christ loved...........

purely business transaction? or a monkey business? dirty business like everyone was selling their soul to satan.. as like when you to prostitute agency it was like WELCOME TO H_E_L_L :)

It usually has nothing to do with satisfaction with wife / girlfriend / partner.

Men visit prostitutes for differing reasons and outcomes. As UkEngQatar says - in the majority of cases it is purely a business transaction.

By GodFather.• 28 Nov 2010 11:40

The right word is Paid not pick! prostititution be it a male or female act, is an act of sexual pleasure in return for financial compensation.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 11:32
anonymous

pilgram: its just simply because its legal everyman that want to pick a girl is easily for them how about the family though theres no string attached? when this issue will be legalized how about the human rights of every wife? or even the human rights of prostitute,? im not saying its close to an affair well i guess if someone pick a girl for a pleasure it only means he wasn't satisfied on his wife, if they legalized this issue they just simply open the each others health prone to HIV though others said that their agency will be protect by health org. lets turn the topic to a man, what if your wife pick a guy for a pleasure? are you agree with it?

The term would be Agent..

Pimps aren't necessarily a bad thing. In a legalized situation the pimps act as business managers. The issue is when they abuse the pro's. But if you legalize it they are held to standards of behaviour.

A valid point. During the last world cup in South Africa, special dispensation was given to such establishments.

As Timebandit asked for arguments against :

Some studies have shown that legalizing prostitution actuially leads to an increase in traficking.

Also, by legalising prostitution, you are not doing away with pimps, but legitimising them.

WK, Lovemee and WK decided to visit a prostitute. It was a slow night, So she gave the guys a deal. "You can pay by the inch."

WK comes back out and his friends ask, "How much did she charge you?"

"75 Riyals," said WK.

Lovemee goes in and returns with a fee of 85 Riyals. The first two were proud of their prowess.

UkEngQatar goes in and returns, "How much did she charge you?" ask the first two.

"20 Riyals" replies the UK.

The first two start laughing hysterically.

"Hey guys," replied UK, "I'm not so stupid, I paid on the way out instead of on the way in!"

By GodFather.• 28 Nov 2010 09:23

Yes pilgram is correct. Why are people getting confused with prostitution and an affair. Prostitution is a sexual pleasure offered in return for money with no strings attached. Whereas an affair is emotional act they may also and many case does involve sexuat acts.

Now the questions is that, should a Prostitute ask the punter if he is married or not before she offers her services?

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 09:17
anonymous

Why would they akosiekaburgos? I doubt more people would start soliciting prostitution just because it's legal. If you're the type of person who pays for sex you're going to do it legal or no.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 09:13

Legalise it. Collect their taxes, Create proper Agents with management fees rather than Pimps. The agents should sign Contract with the professional pleasure services providers. To protect her/him and to provide the best clients to him/her.

Indian society is not mature enough to legalise prostitution yet. Police doesn't always provide protection there so we need to sort out for law & order system before moving ahead.

Colt was walking around Frankfurt with his wife.

They find a perfume shop, the wife goes in, and he waits outside.

A hooker comes along and says to him, “Like to come home with me, buddy? “

“For how much?” asks the man.

“One hundred Euros,” the hooker answers.

“I’ll give you five,” he replies.

The hooker swears at him and walks away.

A little later, Colt’s wife comes out of the shop and they continue their walk.

As they round the corner, there stands the same hooker. She takes one look at the man and his wife and says, “HA!. see what you get for five Euros?”

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:59

So the issue there tink is not that legalization is a bad idea, it's just that culturally you can hardly be ready to legalize prostitution when you need to even start the basics of feminism and equality.

the population plays an important role imo... could that be a reason why I feel it won't work in the 3rd world countries?

Pilgrim - I like your optimism nonetheless :-)

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:56
anonymous

Well first steps are first steps. I think the major issue in 3rd world countries is that women are barely viewed as human to begin with, if a woman is a prostitute she ranks lower than a dog. So there's no desire to help them in the first place.

By Colt45• 28 Nov 2010 08:54
Colt45

I never really thought about that. The rationale being, because sometimes I see police cars around that area and just brush it aside and go on my way :-(

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:53
anonymous

Colt do you think it's any different in 1st world countries? It's the same everywhere. That's why you legalize it, unionize it and get rid of the pimps. You have to take the first step.

By Colt45• 28 Nov 2010 08:52
Colt45

the difference in the 3rd world countries is, the tricks who face up to the pimps, will end up maimed for life or dead :-(

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:51
anonymous

That's why legalizing cuts down on the police abusing the girls as well Tink. Legalizing it gives these women a voice.

By britexpat• 28 Nov 2010 08:50
britexpat

As far as I know , It is .. I know of an establishment in Southampton..

Kerbcrawling and soliciting is illegal..

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:50
anonymous

I have seen it tink, and I think the major issue there is that the citizens let it happen. As Colt just said, he's approached asking if he prefers virgin boys or girls. Why the hell aren't you reporting this to the police?

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:49
anonymous

It would help in 3rd world countries as well. If you legalize it you make it easier for the prostitutes to approach the police when they see trafficking occurring, which they will (they don't want pimps encroaching on their territory anymore than the police want pimps). Now one of the major issues continuing trafficking is that the pro's refuse to to go to the police because they'll just be tossed in jail themselves.

By Colt45• 28 Nov 2010 08:48
Colt45

Frankfurt is the same, but you still see hordes of women out on the street soliciting. And then you will get the occasional pimp come up to you and ask if you have any preference for young boys or virgin girls :-(

By timebandit• 28 Nov 2010 08:48

Brit prostitution isn't legal anywhere in the UK... is it?

By britexpat• 28 Nov 2010 08:48
britexpat

This was my point. It all depends on the society. There is no "one rule for all"..

In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, prostitution is rife and accepted by society. But , if you tried to legalize it, then ...........

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:46
anonymous

Tink, if you make it legal you put in place mandatory health checks and mandatory condom use. Again, if you unionize the pro's, they'll generally take care of this monitoring themselves. Making it safer for both parties.

By Colt45• 28 Nov 2010 08:45
Colt45

In 1st world countries maybe, but not 3rd world countries :-(

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:45
anonymous

Simply making it legal doesn't cut down on streetwalkers Brit, you need to do what Nevada and Amsterdam have done and organize brothels and areas where it's legal. Organizing unions made up of the prostitutes helps a great deal.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:45
anonymous

Atleast it will remove one confusion from my mind, Till date I haven't been able to figure out whether prostitution is legal or not in Delhi.. There is a well known red light area and there are cops there all the time so I guess it's legal but sometimes they do catch the people visiting that place and extort money from them as if it's illegal...

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:43
anonymous

You mean like Nevada? The Netherlands? Everywhere human trafficking is controlled by the underworld, and Nevada and Amsterdam have shown how legalization can really help stop trafficking, cut down on STDs and protect these women & men.

By britexpat• 28 Nov 2010 08:43
britexpat

It all depends on the society itself.

It works in Holland, but in England, where it is legal in some parts, streetwalkers still flourish.

In the Phillipines and Thailand, it is illegal, yet bars act as fronts for "legal" prostitution.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:42
anonymous

Yes but legalizing it makes it easier to catch traffickers. And if the people involved in prostitution are doing it of their own free will, then who are we to stop them? They aren't hurting anyone.

By Colt45• 28 Nov 2010 08:41
Colt45

True dat, but I don't think it will work in places where this trade is controlled by the underworld. It is huge revenue for them and they will still continue to force women into this.

By arecel• 28 Nov 2010 08:40
arecel

it demeans the essence of being human. so no to prostitution!

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:38
anonymous

Of course those forced into wouldn't like, but that's why you legalize it. If you legalize it it's easier to monitor and control and you cut out trafficking. Keeping it underground makes it easier to traffic minors.

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:33
anonymous

Experiences show that legalizing it actually makes it better, because it cuts out the women brought in through trafficking and the drug addicts.

And when you legalize it you get things like Unions that are designed to help these women quit if they want to and provide programmes to keep them safe.

Like it or not Tink there are people who do choose to go into this profession just like there are people who choose to become exotic dancers and porn stars, and I don't believe they find their career choice demeaning.

By britexpat• 28 Nov 2010 08:33

By anonymous• 28 Nov 2010 08:29

I personally think it should be legalised but then where do we stop.. As I said drugs should be legalised too, nobody has been able to stop drug trafficking so might as well make it legal and will generate huge tax revenues as well..

anonymous

against of it, thats the reason why HIV are now getting bigger.. because of that..

I believe the logic is that by legalizing it, you would get rid of the pimps and only those who wish to go into the profession would do so.

I'm going to argue against, because there are still a large number of youth in the Indian sub, who will not go anywhere near a trick, for fear of being rounded up by the cops in surprise raids.

So legalizing it will remove that fear factor from them and only encourage them.

So are you for or against the legalization ?

Yes - some women get into it out of choice and easy money :-(

one could argue that the "Customer" is demeaning him/her self by going to such an establishment..

Yes, legalization would benefit some, but as we've seen, there will always be the streetwalkers.

Prostitution is going to happen whether you like it or not and it isn't going to go away. Legalizing it makes it easier to control and safer.

I doubt whether there would be a "Reduction in sex crimes outside of the profession"

Most sex crimes occur between people who know each other...

Taxing the professionals?

Similar arguments can be given for legalising drugs as well

I realise that its the oldest profession in the world, but I don't agree with

"Reduces broken marriages"

I would think the oposite. By openly available, more people may "sample" it..
