US is poor because they had a sandy and they need money to wash the a*rses of other countries. (:

I'm a bit confused how women are an affected group. Do they live on their own near the sea?

To raise the profile of affected groups, such as indigenous populations, women and those living in dry land regions.

Whats happening in this Bushiness COP 18 is :

Achieving at the conference a complete //Economic Transformation of the World these were the same points in Copenhagen in 2009 and the Bureaucracy is still trying to centralize the power... This means?? real governing power and power of taxation and regulation in its Own Hand ; No mentioned any point of introducing Democracy into this equation :|

By SPLITT• 8 Dec 2012 22:39

the debates over. Its just that our so called leaders just cant let go of capitalism

Yes your right ...

We are not talking about alien's

We are talking about the whole world

We are talking about Qatar, because its going to effect people in Qatar in many ways if they didn't manage the right financial pledge

Also we can make balance in poor countries

Yeah Business " Assets" which made man kind change everything pure and value to Null not only climate

Rich people over there must make a courageous step to make the world -in balance at least in climates

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2012 20:33

so does anybody know what was the outcome of the several day summit?

are the industrial countries going to reduce emission?

will we continuously have buses using gas as fuel?

are we going to recycle our plastic, paper, glass...etc, or will everything end up as trash, as usual?

Is pollution going to be less?

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2012 20:28
anonymous

Pointless, pointless, pointless. If climate change is man made and that is debatable then these idiots in rich and poor countries are a disgrace to humanity. I hope their wives/girlfriends/mistresses enjoyed their shopping treats and the delegates got to eat some first class food

By Haßann• 8 Dec 2012 20:27
Haßann

WHICH MEANSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

"nothing is agreed till everything is agreed". That means that the conference is unlikely to be able to rescue the Kyoto protocol unless the other items of business are also resolved....... Business ?????!!!!

Qatar & Saudi Arabia, into doing more on climate change and using a small slice of their oil wealth to satisfy developing country demands for funds.

NO GLOBAL WARMING ! Wake up Humans

سبحان الله

Qatar, the world's third biggest exporter of natural gas, is also the world's biggest per capita emitter of carbon 50 tonnes a year, compared to 17 for the US and 1.4 for India. The country makes the majority of its $170bn annual income from oil and gas.

The level of wealth of Qatar and their responsibility for emissions means that they should be contributing. It would add a lot of momentum to the talks if they made a financial pledge, and would encourage other countries in the region to show solidarity and help countries that are afflicted by the burning of fossil fuels.

....cars (brand new BMW's), buses, fuel, and all sort of resources wasted on a conference with no results?

So we are actually causing more damage to the environment when we hold such fruitless conferences

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2012 19:48

Well a waste of two pointless weeks, well except for the hotels, bars and restuarants.

They are working overtime. The convention was supposed to have been over yesterday(Friday - 7/12/2012) but they couldn't hammer out an agreement between the developing and developed countries on many fronts. I have heard they will meet another 2 to 3 days, till about tuesday to come to a conclusion. The Kyoto protocol needs to be updated as it's expiring soon.

Maybe I should take them down QDC so they can stock up their hotel rooms with cheap(er) booze.

It seems the tax payers of many countries will take a kicking once the expenses bills are presented.

By anonymous• 29 Nov 2012 08:04

They said that small sandwiches are for 25QR...WOW!

They should turn to falafel, chapati, kima...etc

QDCL and now the delegates are complaining that the eateries in the the convention are highly over priced, even the European and US is complaining, was on the back page of the Gulf time yesterday!

It appears that the delegates have ended up spending much more than they bargained for. Since now some of them are going hungry during the COP18 summit they can not concentrate and hence they will be no major outcomes!

By anonymous• 26 Nov 2012 07:29

I've been searching for lobster and Krug champange for a week now and all the hotels are sold out. Damn delegates! I've tried to rent a BMW but they are all being used as well.

I'm just hoping they will have a publicity shot in the Gulf Times of a bunch of guys sitting behind a long table with a log-printed background.

Once I see that, I will know that the environmental crisis is solved.

Someone said in Al Jazeera today..Qatar holding the COP-18 is like McDonnels holding a conference against obesity.

By landloverreview• 25 Nov 2012 14:37

May be Doha protocol and Doha Declaration might have some good results such some mandatory guidelines this time instead of some voluntary ones.

Lets see. Now or later earth will be destroyed completely as per all the major religious doctrines. This is really contradictory topic for me.

Well said, I agree IanW. It's too bad that Qatar will not learn anything from this conference. Recycling is really needed in Qatar, especially with the growing population.

Sadly it's just another talking shop. Hot air. The chances of producing any significant agreements are Zero - in my opinion.

And the irony of holding it in one of the least environmentally friendly countries on Earth will not be lost on many delegates. Qatar should think carefully before hosting conferences like this. Will the overall impression of the nation gained by attendees be positive? I rather doubt it.

I believe QP are currently flaring off even more sulphur laden gas near Messaieed than usual. Tons of the stuff going up in smoke.

By GodFather.• 25 Nov 2012 07:27

well said marycatherine! I think it more of a show off them a serious conference. Not only does this country have one of the worst carbon footprints, it hardly recycles or encourages to recycle !

By marycatherine• 25 Nov 2012 07:22

Why couldn't the conference be held "virtually"? Then there would be no need for anyone to travel, use resources (most imported)or disrupt the already dire traffic (is direrer a word?).

Bringing all these people here which already has the largest carbon footprint in the world seems counterproductive to say the least.

By GodFather.• 25 Nov 2012 07:18
GodFather.

Not very optimistic about this COP18 conference!

By anonymous• 25 Nov 2012 07:15

Wow! What next?

How about building a whole city in the desert, with the need to import nearly everything and to get there we will all drive our 4x4s and not worry about the gas prices as it's so cheap!

Well,I tried to rent a car two days back, but most of the rental company that I've been to said that ALL their cars had been fully booked for the convention...which make me wonder ,exactly how many people is attending this conference :s

Tomorrow Qatar will officially inaugurate the Pilot CNG refuelling station for CNG buses that would be used in a shuttle service for the participants...atleast Qatar will boast of this little improvement towards reducing smog.

With delegates flying in from all over the world, using transportation with combustion engines and all the ancilliary activities while they are in Qatar....Qatar will continue to hold the HIGHEST CARBON FOOTPRINT IN THE WORLD!!! actually the numbers might increase cause Qatar currently stands at 55.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide per person (10 times the global average)

50 tonnes of lobster will be consumed, 50000 litres of champange will be drunk, 2000 flight and business class tickets used. 2000 5 star hotel rooms, 1000 high end luxury vehicles for transport. 269 handbags bought for wives/girlfriends/mistresses.

368 grand statements made and 0 progress on any important issue, except arranging the next part in another country sometime soon.
