Hey guys,

I need all the help i can get on this one....... I am currently on my dad's sponsorship and just got married 2 days ago at the indian embassy(registered marriage). My husband works in Qatar. Now I am planning to get my name changed (includes issue of new passport with new name) and also transfer my sponsorship from dad to husband.

Can anyone tell me the right order in which these (name change, sponsorship transfer) should be carried out? If anyone has any idea which forms are required for the name change issue from the embassy, pls let me know..... somehow the indian embassy staff (like all govt orgs in india) have no idea what the correct procedure is!!!!!! i called up 3 different ppl and got 3 different replies!!!

Anyone been in this situation?? Pls help!!

Thanks in advance

If you dun wanna do all the running around at the Indian Embassy, I think the ICC can do that for you, on the payment of a fee which is very nominal... sumthing like 10 bucks or so...

I suggest you contact this guy "Dr George Joseph" at the Indian embassy, he would definetly help you out. Alternatively you could also visit the ICC they give out info aswell.

my info revealed this.

the name change has a waiting period of (usually) a month for any objections to be clarified and sorted out.it needs approval from necessary authorities.

then you got to make a new passport in your new name, with the current sponsor( your dad) and once the marriage certificate is notarised by the embassy, have it added in the passport.(new passport doesnt take time, but it depends)

Most important for this process would be to get a signed no objection letter from your dad since he is your sponsor and he must sign a release stating that he has no objection for you to transfer sponsorship onto your hubby's name.

once you get this done, then you can transfer the sponsorship in the new passport onto your hubby's name.

pls dont mind, but why are you in a hurry?is your dad leaving doha? hope all is well with you.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WEDDING, HAVE A HAPPY LIFE DEAR.
