Animal Farm (1999/TV - British)

Stars: Pete Postlewaithe; voices of Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian Holm, Julia Ormond, etc.
Directed by Joseph Stephenson
A group of animals in the farm has taken revolution after an unexpected death of their leader, a pig named Old Major. They ousted the farmer and his wife in their land and the animals have taken up their own self prosperity and freedom without the need for humans to make them work...but not when the revolution takes a different turn as the animals within were changed by 'human' influences.
Based on the famous novel by George Orwell, this modern movie adaptation (previously filmed in 1954 as an animated movie) now perceives a much haunting resemblance to the book with its realistic scenes (thanks to Jim Henson's animatronic effects) that's still too literal in the words amidst the somewhat less than 1 1/2 hours of screentime.
You may now see a full scary reflection of the Soviet Union (damn George Orwell perfectly captured the history of the country!) and a direct satire on the effects of communism and its flaws inherent to the modern times...all told in an animal's viewpoint in the movie.
Always PC -- rofl
Yes, I agree it is a great book and actually a very quick read. I think there is an important lesson to be learned about the corruptibility of power on Idealism.

You didn't miss much..
The book basically says that there is no such thing as a utopian society ...
The best scenes I had with the movie was the 'amendments' of the laws made by the animals.
One law states that "No animals shall drink alcohol", but by adding an extra word ("No animals shall drink alcohol in excess), it becomes a different meaning instantly, and any animal can now drink alcohol but not on an overdose.
Your quote "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad" was 'amended' into "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better".
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
Do not hug/kiss or shake hands when you greet someone. It may spread the swine flu. Instead blow a trumpet to acknowledge you have seen him/her.
You should start to worship the Pagan Elephant God if you want to increase your attention span.

It was part of our syllabus in grade 8 i believe.loved it , especially the way our teacher explained the Bolshevik revolution which is set in the backdrop!
Yes sad end for Boxer. I felt sorry for Clover when Boxer was sent to the knackers.
When I first read it as a kid I didn't know much about the Bolshevik revoluion.
