"America's vision in the twenty first century
The most important issue to arise from September 11th is that America launched its post-post Cold War paradigm that will ensure global strategic stability in the 21st century. America's strategic aim for this paradigm is to redesign and reshape the systems and the frameworks upon which the strategic stability of the world had been built during the past decades, since the Kennedy-Khrushchev Agreement in 1961.
To achieve this, America, over the last eighteen months, has threatened to withdraw from or reject the legitimacy of a number of international agreements that date back to the Soviet Union's era, in order to make them compatible with America’s vital interests in the 21st century. Richard Haass, director of policy planning in the American State Department, expressed the new American vision by stating that it was based on “a la carte multilateralism … we will look at every agreement and then decide. We will not have a comprehensive style”. This stance was further confirmed by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright stating that America “…will behave multilaterally when we can, and unilaterally when we must”. For example, she has attempted to withdraw from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and the Biological weapons convention amongst others.
As with all paradigms, and this one is no exception, it needs a threat so that it may become a reality and thus actively put into operation. America has defined this threat as Islam. The enmity to Islam is because the Islamic Ummah is the only nation from amongst the non-Capitalist nations that has an ideology that she embraces, despite the fact that currently she neither lives according to it nor conveys it to the world. Indeed, America’s campaign to make Capitalism solely dominate the world is not met by real resistance except in the Islamic world. Thus, America believes that Islam is the threat to its plans to make Capitalism an ideology for all nations and people of the globe.
It is a fact that after the demise of Communism in 1991, two ideologies remained on the international stage, Islam and Capitalism. America went on to ensure the international domination of its ideology and began its campaign to make it prevail globally through the spread of its concepts of democracy, pluralism, human rights and free markets. To guarantee that nation-states comply with and implement her ideology and concepts, America has acted like the global policeman, judge and jury that hunts down any state that does not comply with this framework, including the international laws, conventions and systems, or impedes its implementation.
America wants to single out Islam because it not only wants people to implement Capitalism as systems and laws but also to embrace its creed, and take its thoughts, its concepts, criteria and convictions in all the domains of life and to not be satisfied by merely implementing it as systems and laws.
America has specifically singled out Islam as the main challenger to this framework. The Editor-in-Chief of Oxford's Encyclopaedia of the Modern Islamic World, also a consultant to the US State Department, said that in his view "searching for a new enemy against whom to test our mettle and power, after the death of Communism, ISLAM is the preferred antagonist…but to declare Islam an enemy of the United States is to declare a second Cold War that is unlikely to end in the same resounding victory as the first. Fear of the Green Menace (the colour of Islam) may well replace that of the Red Menace of world communism". Similarly the Hall Professor of History, Jonathan Clark, commenting on the current Afghan war, stated that "despite the denials, this war is rooted in religion".
Moreover, recent statements by Bush declaring that this is a war against all those who oppose freedom and democracy, the pillars of the American campaign to make Capitalism prevail globally, is further confirmation that this is an attack against Islam and Muslims, since they are the only Ummah with an ideology that opposes Capitalism and its concepts of democracy, freedom, human rights and free markets.
All the current governments in the Islamic world do not implement Islam, though some of them claim to do so. Rather they implement Capitalism in a distorted form. These rulers are agents for the Kuffar who maintain the dominance of Kufr established by the West in the Muslim lands. They are rulers that guard the interests of the West, consolidate its influence, and proceed in all their domestic and foreign policies according to Western directions and orders.
Despite this division that the Kuffar created in the Ummah and despite the fact that its ideology was removed from their practical lives and from the international sphere, Islam as an ideology remained existent universally after the destruction of its state, the ‘Uthmani Khilafah in 1924 CE, because the Islamic Ummah with all her different peoples continued to embrace this ideology. .
In fact, the Islamic Ummah began from the early 1950’s to perceive her path for revival on the basis of Islam. She began to make moves to mould her life according to its basis, and look forward to saving the world with it.
The Kafir West still recalls how Islam transformed Arabs from fighting tribes living at the margin of history into a civilised, distinguished Ummah. The Islamic civilization illuminated the world and enabled the Ummah to become the master of the world in a short span of time and continued to be so for ten centuries spreading justice, security, high values and prosperity, in every place that the standard of the Khilafah was raised. Therefore the West fears that the Islamic Ummah would return to destroy its influence and interests, not only over Muslim lands, but also globally. Realising this fact, America as the standard bearer of capitalism has directed its campaign primarily against the Islamic Ummah, even if the campaign was declared as a global war on terrorism.
Even if this campaign has other motives, such as the Capitalist greed, the ambitious desire of America and the West towards the resources of the Muslim lands, the geographic and strategic advantages of these lands, and the fact that they constitute a huge market for the products of the West and they are a source for the raw materials necessary for its industries in addition to its huge oil reserves vital to its interest. Notwithstanding all these motives, the principle motive behind this campaign is the potential threat from the Islamic Ummah against the interests of the West, its international influence as well as the threat to its very existence once the Islamic Ummah wakes up, revives and carries her message to the world.
It is obvious that the enormity of this situation is significantly more important than any conceivable action that has befallen the Ummah in the last decade, more substantial than even the Gulf War in 1990-91. The impact on the Muslim Ummah and its calamitous results can be judged as second to the destruction of the Khilafah state in 1924. This campaign is the start of a sustained and fierce ideological attack under the banner of exterminating terrorism. It should be read as an assault on all those sincere groups that promote Islam as the way for revival. The only exception from this attack will be those who wish to serve America’s plans by promoting and propagating her beliefs, values and ideas like pluralism, democracy, human rights, and free markets."

Ok, I've been ignoring this, as I tend to ignore religious threads as we all know I do not appreciate religion. In this thread I would just like to say that DunnPeel sounds a bit off his rocker, I really don't like fundametalism, and to MRs. I would simply like to say that PM, Port Alfred and Alexa are probably the most religious people on this site, in that they view religion in a realistic, educated and moderate way. I highly respect them all for that (and always have). Mrs. you seem slightly paranoide about religion, or at least believe that using your brain is wrong. I highly suggest using it, it may open many new doors for you, and you might be able to remove the stick from your azz. :)

Why politics and religion has to be interlinked.

I think that when Islam, or any other belief/ideology, is trying to gain more supporters, then there must me some attraction to the merchandise you are selling, or at least you have to make sure that your merchandise is free of things that make people run away from it. Don't expect people to listen to you when you have the "kafir west" policy. Don't be a judge that non-muslims are doomed in hell. I think that to show the world your love, kindness, generousity, forgiveness, wisdom, respect, toleration, friendship...etc, all this will have the people interested in you and in the religion/merchandise you are representing/offering.
There are organizations around the world (saw one Catholic organization in Jordan) that aid people in need by providing them with almost free medicine, treatment, blankets & heaters in winter...etc. These organizations don't ask you about your religion while they are helping you. They actually don't talk about religion at all even when they are providing aid to a person called Mohammed. They just help the humans in need, and it is the human nature to be grateful to a helping hand. Nothing wrong in helping people because you are kind-hearted, plus gain publicity to whom you represent!
I am sorry to say that SOME Islamic organizations have yet to undertand & accept this policy, and stop refusing to help those who are not muslims!

People like you DunnPeel who think they can "teach" others Islam have resulted in the severe split and conflict between Muslims themselves (am talking about Sunna)
Islam strength is the Quran and Prophet's Hadeeth (credible Hadeeth)and those are the ONLY source of sharia. Those like you who want to teach usually has one of two objectives. Either you represent a group (being a party or terrorist) or you want simply to accumulate "good points" (Hasanat) to get a better place or to ensure a place in Heaven. Guess everyone currently is in a good position to read and comprehend.
The problem is our internal-split. The West or Christians have nothing to do with that. So before we talk about others and their plans and all the bla bla ing, let us sort out our internal problems - which I doubt we can currently - because every Islamic group or party think they are the proper and correct and ALL other groups and parties are wrong. Once that is achieved then we can discuss our issues with the outside world.

In your last few postings, it looks like you have lost focus in the dicussion and you are taking a very biased stand point and dont seem to be countering any of the facts. Yes Dunnpeel can at times be annoying with his postings and his ways - but suggest that in your hatred - you dont ignore some of the facts which he is presenting - which is quite true - again may be the way he presents it might not be the best way. May be his choice of words of method of approaching it might not be the best way. But - I guess that should not undermine the essence of the topic. I do agree truth in its orginal form can be bitter. But we need not make it offensive. Many a times your postings do offend people from other faiths and hope you do consider your way of presenting your arguments and matter and be more careful as NONE of us have the right to offend another faith. Some of the topics that you bring are too controversial and sensitive - I doubt if this is the right place to discuss some of them. Its quite strange how non muslims find pornography liberating or that it is ok for women to be treated as sex slaves, that it is ok to blaspheme in the name of freedom of speech, to have same sex relations, have sex outside wedlock, to poison their bodies using all manner of intoxicants and narcotics, to lie and call it a 'white lie' to santitize it, etc etc...I could go on but then you'd complain that my post is too long!
The point being that if Man is incapable of laying down a system to govern society correctly because Man is weak and limited and incapable of developing systems that truly lead to societies tranquillity and harmony. Only the Creator of Man, Life and Universe can do this and hence we were given Islam as the final message from God to mankind.
Previous revelations to Man were limited to a time and place whereas Islam is completely perfect and comprehensive and is valid for all times and places irrespective of the changing nature of technology because Man has not changed and is the same from the first man to the last i.e He has the same needs and requirements. Thus man, eats, sleeps, drinks, interacts with others, worships, needs shelter, warmth etc. The only things that have changed are the means man uses i.e. things such as technology that has changed but nothing else.

I have the answer to your question but it requires a lot of elaboration but in very summarised version here follows:
Thoughts are the key to change. We wish to change the prevailing unIslamic thoughts in the muslim world to Islamic thoughts which Islam has come with. Muslims need to view the world and life in the manner Islam determined. Muslims need to conduct all of their actions in accordance to the Sharia. Thus Good and Bad or Right and Wrong are determined by Sharia not by me or anyone else. Furthermore Muslims need to be aware of the manner in which Islam is implemented, protected and carried to the world.
Islam is an ideology and therefore it has all the systems required to look after humanities needs in the correct manner. Islam is therefore an alternative to Capitalism/Democracy and Communism. Islam is unique because it is both a spiritual and political belief.
To bring change to the thinking in the muslim world requires interaction with it (discussion and debate). We effectively smelt the muslim world with the Islamic thoughts so that the inpurities that cling to her are removed just like iron ore is smelted to produce steel.
This work is intellectual and political since in Islam politics means to look after the affairs of the people and it is intellectual because it is a battle of ideas.
If one was to read the life of the Messenger (saw) one would find that he struggled in the same manner in Mecca (i.e he challenged the thoughts and practices prevalent in the society until Islam became accepted in Medina as the system to govern the people). After the Messenger migrated to Medina, 13th year of his Messengership, did God reveal the laws related to do with transactions i.e. economic, ruling, tax, education, penal code, foreign policy, war policy etc.
Therefore once the masses acquire the awareness for Islam, then they will move naturally to demand its complete implementation even if that means enduring hardship and suffering.

Pope - I agree with you to a certain extent that its not right the ALL AMERICAN HATRED. We have to be objective on our approach. Not that I am a fan of America or its policies - but do have many American friends and get along with them very well and infact we share and agree on many of the things we diagree about American policies. I have found them to be very open to criticism and take feedback in a very mature way. I am not implying that you dont! Just stating that its not fair to hate all AMERICANS. There are a lot of great things in the American system and society that the world needs to learn and acknowledge - they just need to be more open to things thats it. The sad thing is that many communities around the world - dont learn the good things from the west and America - but choose to adopt the evil of them and import that into their society and then in the end - cry about it! Any ways - another feedback to the rest of the posters on this thread - Yes - some of you seem to disagree with Dunnpeel quite passionately - I hope it is not just because of the despise for him!
As "Amnesia" pointed - there are some facts or points in his comments and article that is quite interesting and seems to resonable. Some of the trends can be seen and some of the facts mentioned are in the books of history. Now there are lot of debates on the very authenticity of these books - but there are similar debates on books of history that we are accustomed to or the ones refer to. So unilaterally rejecting every thing from the other side would be quite fanatic! There is some truth in it. Lets not get buried in our hate and not see the truth.
Just because some one has another point of view - and it does not conform to ours - does not mean that he/she is wrong or bad. Have we not seen the negative sides of this approach in the world around us. As Alexa always says - invest in people with knowledge. SO with knowledge comes discussions and debtates and at times shift in paradigm.

I personally do not agree with many approaches of Dunnpeel. Instead of creating a discussion - I see more hatred and spite being thrown around. Now - what I see above is not fair/right either. Yes - many of us over here dont like his form of cut and pastes and some of the topics of his discussion. But I think - the rest of us should take a more civilised manner to approach the topic and matter. Sorry - this thread has become quite nasty and I see a lot of personal attacks.

They were immigrating to various places of the world for that reason. Some arrangement was reached later to except the Christians from joining the "Islamic Empire" army. Of course I believe it because it is a fact. The Byzanantians, Romans, Persians etc treated their subjects like slaves who endured miserable conditions. Thus when they heard about non-muslims being able to practice their religion, or that non-muslims were protected as Ahul Dimmah who lived as citizens under the rule of Islam, whose properties and land were guaranteed to them etc then many people fled to the Islamic State to seek refuge and ask the Muslims to liberate them form their miserable lives.
Thus it was no surprise that the Christians or Al-Sham fought alongside the Muslims against their own christian brtheren from the west or that some of the prominent legal experts in Islamic law were non muslim, that the jews of Andalus went to modern day Turkey to seek refuge during the Spanish inquisition.

Allah (swt) says (to paraphrase) in the Quran." If you dispute in any matter than refer to Allah or His Messenger" meaning refer any disputes back to the Quran or the Sunnah (actions, speech and silence) of the Messenger.
Thus what the Quran says about Jihad (121 verses or so in the Quran) or what Muhammed (saw) said about the muslims not being divided, having one leader and carrying Islam to the world (via the State) is clear. In fact Muhammed (saw) lead over 30 battles and most of these were offensive in nature, the fact that the Muslims delayed the burial of the Messenger for 3days and 2nights to select a leader despite it being obligatory to bury the dead asap indicates that the importance of selecting a leader overode the necessity to bury the dead (in this case were talking about a Messenger).
In todays situation, where we have 55 muslim states, each with their own flags, national anthems, national days have no precedent in Islam or evidence. These states were a direct result of Colonialism and the objective to carve up the Muslim world so it may never unite.
I will say this. There are those 'muslims' who have sided with the west to misinterpret Islam and these people are labelled moderates. Then there are those who have decided to enact revenge on the west in the form of physical struggle in the west itself who called extemists or jihadists but the latter have misunderstood verses in the Quran and taken them out of their context.
Then there are people who wish to bring back Islam as an ideology via the intellectual and political struggle using the Messenger (saw) as an example in the manner he turned a corrupt, despotic, idol worshipping society into an Islamic one (i.e his Life in Mecca to whne he established the first Islamic State in Medina- a struggel which lasted 13 years).
Therefore to understand who is abusing Islam or which Muslims are then we ask those individuals or groups to present their Islamic evidence and their understanding of it.
I can assure Islam is Islam, niether moderate or extreme. Either you practice Islam or you don't. Our objectives as Muslims is not to please other people but to please God.

I doubt WW1, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War were rooted in religion. In fact Capitalism and Communism have killed millions in the name of Godless Ideologies in the last century than in anytime in humanity.
When the Army of Islam was liberating people from darkness into the shade of Islam they were very careful in ensuring women, children, the elderley and even the environment were not harmed. The way those people, who lived for centuries under oppressive rule (kings, lords, etc) were eager for the muslims to come and liberate them because they knew Islam offered security and justice, is sharply contrasted to the manner in which non muslim conqerors treated their subjects. That is why when non-muslims came into contact with muslims and lived under the system of Islam, did many of them embrace Islam and joined the Army of Islam- thus the conquered became the conquerors!
Of course, I do not deny that in the 1400 hundred years of Islamic rule there were no problems. Of course there were, because Muslims (not Islam) are not infallible and misapplied Islam or overstepped the limits but this was isolated and limited and cannot be used to describe the overall situation of the people who lived under Islam.
In fact whn the muslims lived under Islam and applied the systems correctly they became world leaders and when they moved away from Islam, then we have the sorry situation we have today.
