al kohr compound

Can anyone please give me some info on the area outside Al kohr compound. I've been told that the accomodation included in my job offer is just outside the compound 3/4 bedroomed property about a kilometer from the Al kohr international school. Does anyone live near there. It would be a great help if you could shed some light on what the area is like and what facilities are close by? Thank you in advance!

well, its an ok place, you'll get used to it in a while. a two bedroom apartment is ok sized...i live in a villa, but i guess the flat bedrooms are around 5m x 5m. and living rooms are pretty big- compared to the uk and ireland, the houses here are pretty much bigger.

The coldest its ever been here is around 10 degress celcius, i just wear a hoody and shorts.

There are beaches here, not far from the compound, they are about 10-30km away from the compound. 10km away from the compound is the harbor.

my friends go out quading and biking on weekends, there are long open roads behind the compound that go to a flat desert, near there are a lot of hills, if your 'hubby' likes stunts and stuff.

Most places stay open during ramadan, most shops close at around 12 and open up at 4-ish and stay open till about midnight.

i miss the pubs most!

Im a student btw, study in the school in the compound. Im in yr 13, so its my last year of school (year 12 and 13 are known to be pre-college years)

p.s. if u want i can send u pics of the apartments, or possibly a house plan.

Thanks for the info.

You must like it if you've lasted for 9 years! TO be quite honest i've been browsing Qatar living for a while now and some of the comments i've read about qatar i found a bit off putting i haven't been able to form a real picture of Qatar and its lifestyle.

I have since been told that we'll be housed in a two bedroomed apartment within the compound - do you know if the the apartments are nice and roomy?

Sorry to bug you with lots of questions but could you also please let me know if:

I'll need to bring warm clothing for the winter?

Is al Khor near a beach (can't seem to find much info on the net about it)

Are there any motorbike riders there (my hubby is an avid biker!)

Is everthing open as normal during the month of fasting.

What items would do you miss the most there?

BTW what feild of work are you in?

yeh i've been living in al khor community for the past 9 yrs now, i can say its a decent place to live in, outside the compound however is pretty boring, but if u work for either qatargas or rasgas then u should get a place in the compound no problem i should hope. The school is not even a kilometre away from anywhere, its about half a kilometre away from everything.
