Al-Asmakh 'Deposit' Cheque

Last week I signed a villa rental contract for a year on the new Beverly Hills Rayyan compound. The houses are to be ‘delivered’ on the 1st of February.

They insisted that the contract should be signed starting the 1st of February while the compound is not finished yet and refused to hold the house and enter the contract as of 1st of March.

Furthermore, they asked for a deposit cheque that they will collect and not just use it as a deposit on the 1st contract date. This means they will keep/use the money that is only meant as a deposit (cheque) during the entire contract period.

I wonder what you think about this and when/how those RE companies will stop humiliating people and start to have an eye for the customer respecting the rental laws, if there are any.

I thought this company was a reliable company but the way how they deal with their customers changed my mind totally and they are not the first RE agency I am dealing with in Doha.

Hi Myshadow,

I'm thinking to move to this compound, if you are living there it would be very nice if you could give me some advice about the real life there.

Thanks

My advice is simple, do not give them a cheque until the day you move in. If they do not like it tell them to simply get lost. Also I have not met a single person who has moved into a villa on the date due and when they have some things were unfinished eg internet, pool, plumbing. I suggest you tell the agent that you willl meet them on the agreed date withe the cheque and if everything is in order you will hand it over. If it is not completely finished either walk away and find somewhere else (there is literally hundreds of empty places)or reduce the amount on the cheque and get them to sign that the balance of the rent will be paid when everything is fixed up.

Do not let them bully you. It is your money and once you part with it you will have a hell of a job getting anything fixed.

Good luck
