Airport Security

Now we aren't allowed to take creams liquids in handluggage in Doha.

I always forget something at the bottom of my hand luggage. This trip my sun tan oil and then some of my wrinkle cream was confiscated! :(

My question is - what do they do with all the things they confiscate? Is there a garage/hangar sale?

second question - what have you had confiscated recently?

Was easier than typing a long PM to you.

This was the only thread I could find on this subject, although I know there was another one announcing when Doha apparently fell into line with International Security Regulations.

I remember Novi asking me to let her know how it was when I flew from Doha recently.

I did my usual 'pack anything liquid in a sandwich size, clear, resealable bag'. However, unlike any other airport security I have been through in the UK recently, at Doha none of the passengers (on my flight, anyway) were requested to show the bag separately so it never left my hand baggage for inspection. Hmmmm I think they should have put plastic bag in a tray with shoes for inspection and to go through that little monitored tunnel.

Novi, you also said you had a problem in London with duty free when your flight was cancelled and you had to go through security again. This isn't quite the same situation, but when I was buying duty free goods at Doha everyone was asked if Gatwick was their final destination - if it wasn't then they seemed to treat the items differently, different tag or something (can't remember). I just recall those who would be in transit at Gatwick didn't look too happy, so maybe the goods had to travel separately, but like I said I can't remember exactly.

Only other comment I have is that I went to the departure gate at the allotted time, even though I hadn't heard any announcement. We went straight on to the plane and they closed the doors for take off. Fifteen minutes later the doors opened and it was standing room only! lol It turned out there never WAS any announcement so about three quarters of the passengers had no idea the gate was open.

We took off about an hour late!

New airport security rules are:

You are allowed to take on board things like creams and lotions provided they are not more than 100ml and fit loosely in a 1 liter transparent zipper bag.

No restriction on baby food.

Novita: As your flight was cancelled and shifted to the next day, why didn't you pack the perfume into the suitcase? You are entitled to see your suitcase to change packing and arrange for your overnight stay by international passenger law.

Oryx: That is what I thought, that's why I emphazised that my comment shouldn't be an offence! I had also a deodorant in my carry-on...an I am the person that should know it...no excuse but stupidity! ;o)

I can tell you that at least in Europe all the things are treated as dangerous goods and are burned immediatly. How it is here in qatar...have you seen any roadworker with eye-wrinkles recently? ;)

I wasn't complaining actually about security - more about myself for forgeting. Its like damm I just bought that.

FYI - eye wrinkle cream is in small tubes, expensive and gets easily lost in the detrius of my day pack. Anyway I have about 6 other tubes. LOL

I was just curious if they sold the stuff on because it would be a good deal and go and buy all this!

It is meant to be a light hearted thread anyway.

Why airport advertise that you can buy their perfume at duty free ... then the flight cancel, the next day when you go through security they want to take the perfume from u. Cancellation of the flight not the passenger fault isn't it?

thats happened to us in Heathrow :-(

You still can carry cosmetics and Syrups (Medicines/ Baby Food) for Kids in your hand baggage...you should put them in a transparent Zipper Cover and show them to the Security.

Good morning DaRude...Johny... kaisa hai 420's?

Such stupid security measures have been on in Greek airports too, since last December!

Even laptops are checked!

serious question:

You have flown before, so you know the rules!

How can you complain about things like swiss knifes and sun tan oil being taken from you!

I don't want to offend you, but I worked for an airport for 10 years and I am still asking myself why people still bring there swiss knife (sorry hamlet) I understand when people simply forget to take it out of the bag, but I have the feeling that it happens too often!

Another one: Oryx, why do you need sun tan oil in your carry-on I never needed it during the light or until the time I could access my luggage?

Again, this is not to offend you, it's just the view of a guy having extensive experience in that field! Take it as a ironic querrstion!

They took my swiss knife last time :((( though I managed to travel with it a couple of times before! They have a point anyway so I didn't argue. I guess the officer gave it to his son or something, my poor knife can't think of a worse fait :((((
