guys it is just a GREAT job its not like other job you have to love . wanting it from inside not that its just a vaccination and that you will fly or the money ..... they will have hard time but who loves the job and understands it he/she will have the time of there life s
I get what you are trying to say. My wife was a flight attendant too. The realities you speak of are correct. However, I think that you may have come on a bit too strong and hence my retaliation. Those that survive in aviation are the ones that are passionate about it. Those that are in it for the glamour (not so much any more) are going to face the reality of it sooner or later. Aviation at the moment is in sort of a downward spiral, but people are more informed about how tough the job may actually be and I think that they should be able to make the decision for themselves. DON'T SCARE THEM!!!
Maybe I like my job and life a little too much. You see too many people complain about how bad Qatar is....in actual fact, this is probably one of the handful of countries in the world where you don't pay tax and have free health care.
Yup, and happily so for the largest carrier in the US for many, many years. But if a girl goes into the airlines with stars (or pilots) in her eyes - without knowing the realities of the schedules, the demands of the job and the scale of the pay - she is usually in for a big disappointment. Her passengers will be miserable and her company will not get the benefit of a mature employee. I believe in informed choices - they are the ones people usually stick with and grow from.

PS Garth, I see you are ground crew, it may be a little different at 30,000'.
Mandi, I work 4 days and then get 4 days off. I get paid well, have a good apartment, drive a nice car, and do whatever I want and go where ever I want on my days-off. Did I mention I get discounted tickets. I also live a very, very, very comfortable life in Doha.
Sorry for being a bit rude but I think all jobs at onetime or another get frustrating. It just depends on if you like your job and life?
For those of you who think that QR is a horror to work for.........get a life. I have worked with QR for 8 years and its a pleasure to work for them. There will always be people who bitch and moan about everthing and anything......so, be happy with what you do and where you work. If not, get another job!
so did u apply or not? Dont forget us people once you get in...esp me coz i want lots of staff discount on certain stuff so u can be my OTHER go to girl lol...i'm serious :|

being a crew is just like any other hospitality oriented job. there are the ups and the downs. what i enjoy most is having to work half of the month and being off the rest of the month. you can swap your roster with friends and collegues suit yourself. ive heard horror stories of how military QR is. i work in the UAE but most of my offs are spent in doha. its great. you fly all over the world, stay in the best hotels, enjoy numerous discounts, meet diff kinds of people...just try get in and enjoy the benefits. your family wont see you 24/7 and you may have to spend xmas on air etc... but all said and done,, you can do flourishing businesses back home cos your flights are only 10 percent charged,,,invest, invest invest and work half a month for an average of 12 plus plus thousand riyals, free accomodation and transport, insurance, medical cover....at the end of the day..close your ears to all those negative comments abt trolley dollys and do your thing.... its a great job!
nope... i havnt worked fo an airline before....and well,
why i like it ??..i can't name an exact reason.. but i love being free and travel around the world..at least for sometime in my life..whenever i see an air_hostess, i always feel like 'i want to be one' ..thats all...dont really know much about the inside stories at Qatar.... why dont you tell me...;)
oye! i dont mind being a janitor in the airport, you have to see the larger picture man! I can get tips just by standing outside the men's room with tissue paper!! I can remove all the tissue papers from the toilets and force them to use the ones i hand them thus i will make money on the side ;) Plus i have my good looks and a George Clooney smile(ok so i know to lie very well too) with that i can patao more airline chicks than YOU Rizks. Not to mention the staff discount i will get for all the ciggies and chocolates and electronics. See even janitors have their perks :)

If your thinking about Qatar Airways then perhaps you dont know the inside stories ;) But if you love flying then go for it, as u are confident you can balance between life and job. But before that answer me something. According to YOU, what are your views on this whole Airline Job thingy? What is it that draws you to it? Has your love for the airline industry come from what you've seen or heard, or have u actually held any airline job before? bolo bolo :)
Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)
I do agree with you about BALANCING of life & job but dear in aviation industry when one has to be in the air with strangers for most of the hours & days then how can you balance your life with job. I think u got my point.
.
Any job which has reasonable hours and is in the same area where ur living with ur family can be balance according to your requirement but not with aviation type jobs.
some say that it doesn't suit women , because the job requires going for long journies and staying out a lot...and it can affect family lives and all..but i don't think its true...because if someone can balance between the job and the family, it would not be a problem...

It seems to have suited many girls and women and men over many years. What's your question?
Mandi
does it suit a girl? any idea???
They don't pay well, they are long hours and hard work, they are extremely frustrating, completely unpredictable and very addictive.
