Advice?

Hi to all,
I was hoping to get some advice (like many others before me) on a Doha employment package offered to me. From what I can gather, it would appear to be a decent offer, but would welcome feedback from anyone kind enought to assist.
Approx. package is;
Base salary = QAR30,000.00/mth
Housing = QAR10,000.00/mth
Plus Vehicle
Plus 4 intnl return flights per annum.

I will be arriving with my fiance in June and would love an honest assessment of our pending financial position.

Given all that I'm reading on Qatar living expenses being on the rise etc, would the above figures provide me & my girl a comfortable lifestyle and some savings?

P.S. My fiance will not be working until I can sort out the visa situation on spouses.

Thanks in anticipation - regards Ado

Hi,

I think your offer is quite better especially when in time your fiance will have to start working. Me and my wife just got married and so we started our income and expenses combined. She earns QAR15,000.00 and I earn QAR23,000.00 but we still have to pay for our housing as part of the expenses.

And so far, we are doing good and we're saving at the end of every month. i guess you made the right decision in taking the offer. Enjoy your stay here.

Life only can be understood backwards, but must be live forward.

You arrive in June? Get ready to melt if you never been in Qatar for summer :-) lol ...

Do you know where your office going to be? At the moment traffic is a nightmare ... so if you can find a house nearby your working place it would be really good. I think i spending my life in my car now :-(

If your house is sorted ... you can take your gf for malls crawling ... Maybe you can take her to walk around the souq in the evening for looking around.

Once you arrive in Doha try to get hold of Marhaba book. You can buy it in Jarir Book store for QR 20.

Not much you can do outdoor in the summer ... but when winter starting normally will be plenty of dune trips or BBQ.

I would be more than happy to meet up with your gf ... and i can take her to meet up with my bunch of girlfriends. Here is my e-mail [email protected]

I dont know what else i could tell ... but if y ou have anymore perticular question just let me know.

Super, I played for 17 years (got a schoolboy Waratah jumper too) but wont be doing much as knee and shoulder recontructions prevent any further playing. But will definately check out the club on arrival.

No, I'm not joining any oil company - I work in construction.

Talk again later, as I know I'll line up more questions.

Ado you don't play rugby do you? We are always looking for decent players, I know they are few and far between in OZ but i have to ask.

When you do your recon visit rugby club. Plenty of people there will give you honest advice on anything you want to know.

You're not joining oilexec.com are you?

Novita77 - thanks for the reassuring comments. At this point in time we are undecided as to how long we'll stay in Doha. The position is a start up and will take some time. I guess a minimum 18mth - 2 years but will depend on lots of things.

No kids on the horizon just yet, I might start my girl off with a dog first and see how responsible she can be!

Our main concern is a decent quality of life and savings. We are planning a quick reconinsence visit before moving over full-time, so hope to get a better feel for everything. Any advice?

Life only can be understood backwards, but must be live forward.

You will be fine with that income. Hubby wages and his houseing allowance less that yours, yet we still have left over by the end of the month.

Just wondering wether you plan to settle down in Qatar long term? Once you married and have your family will school fee included in your package? Decent school in Doha will cost you quite a bit.

Good luck with your moving.

Hey Super, thanks for the comments. I'm coming over from Sydney and really only know what I'm finding on this website so appreciate your reply. So, judging by what you've said, life would be good based on the package at least.

You will be minted. You may have to spend a little on the villa (perhaps 2k extra) but otherwise you will save a tonne!

Not sure where you are from but I have attached a spreadsheet (somewhere on this site) that shows what you would need to earn in UK to have the same take home as here.

After tax and NI you would need to earn £88k a year to take home the equivalent of 30k a month. Plus you are not paying for a house or car!

There is very little else to spend your money on. Even with a full time maid at QR1k a month i reckon you will save 65% of your monthly salary.
