Abortion - Chinese style

A dozen officials burst into her home, dragged her out and carried out the abortion

An eight-month pregnant Chinese woman who defied the one-child norm was dragged out of her home and forced to have an abortion.

A dozen government officials entered the home of Xiao Aiying’s house and allegedly hit her and kicked her in the stomach before dragging her to a hospital where she was injected with a drug to kill the unborn baby, reported the Daily Mail on Friday.

The 36-year-old woman was restrained while doctors went about their given task of injecting the drug. The incident happened on October 10 in Siming, near the city of Xiamen, south-west China. The incident came to light when the couple decided to blog their ordeal, an act that could fetch them official retribution.

Video footage that came out of the hospital, showed Xiao left with a bruised arm from the beating she received from the officials who barged into her house.

The report quoted her construction worker husband Luo Yanquan as saying officials who burst into their home held her hands behind her back and pushed her head against the wall and kicked her in the stomach. “I don’t know if they were trying to give her a miscarriage,” he said.

fighting for sovereignity.  Outside interference of any nation should not be tolerated as internal problem of a country should be solve within. Of course there is also a limitation on this one if for obvious reasons. But China and Russia keeps reminding those who meddle in pure internal or domstic matters (specifically if there is vested interest).

but the burden is tremendous for said family to handle. These are the sales clerks, or cleaners or those who do foot spa or become laborers because they have no access to FREE education as they are not entitled to because only the first born is recognized.Better visit China to know the real score inside and stop speculating!

This sounds like a political drama......The poor lady with 8 months pregnancy can not have abortion. The only thing she will deliver is a premature child. This is a political game. ..........well nobody blackmails the dragon.......lolz

It is their law to have one child per family., they should have abide the law., but ..,the way how the police acted on it is kinda inhumane... sad to hear about it though :(

No she shouldnt have kept the baby knowing the policy but she did and she is 8 months pregnant. Given the medical implications of the forced abortion some other method could have been used. What method is something they need to come up with but it could have been handled in a more humane manner.I agree Doha Chap. The authenticity of the news needs to be looked into too.

As per their policy of having only one child is their policy - granted. Having an abortion is also the way out - also agreeable. what is unacceptable is that the lady in question was 8 months pergnant and in that stage it is not only harmful for the baby but also the mother. She could have died.Beating a pregnant woman is barbaric.Any instance where a woman is dragged into the public eye to be humiliated in any manner is barbaric and inhuman. It is unacceptable.

One child is China's policy, nothing wrong with that...  the woman who gets preggi the second time, even if accidently, can voluntarily go for an abortion to avoid being asked by authorities to do so....and so I do not see anything wrong in that she was forced to abort by the authorities, except the way they went about it which I am not very comfortable with.

very scary story..fluffy i agree with you.. if one child policy thier law then i would suggest another law, "to ligate all woman after giving first birth".. that way their will be no more life to abort..

I know many great people in my country who produce children as commodities which can be cashed. The education & food for that child is the last concern(if at all) for such people. Human rights apply to humans, not such people.

i understand china has a population problem. but its not right to force abortions on people. birth control fails sometimes even when used properly. so a 2nd pregnancy for some women in china may be an accident. so does that mean she has to get a forced abortion? it is very tramatic for a woman to lose a child she is carrying.what china is doing is wrong plain and simple.

Limiting the no. of children to one has served them good else China wouldnt be where it is...would have been rather pulled down in providing facilities to cater to the huge population that it would  have had otherwise and other roblems that come with it. Having talked to quite many chinese, though they feel they would be happy to have two children as one child finds it difficult without the company of somone similar at home ... but then they also acknowledge that one child policy has helped their country reach the levels it is and in turn to them to have a share in all good (materialistic) things that is on offer... and  it has also helped them give their only child reasonably good education as the salaries are quite less there (well, seems for most of them) whereas the cost of things are almost at par with any other place except, may be, for food.

.. and who gave the chinese communist tyrants and despots  the right to tell people how many children they can have or how they can live their life. The chinese have been raised to live in fear of the authorities and the day is not far when this people  will rise up and chase the communists tyrants to hell and beyond just like the russians and the east europeans did to their communist tyrants and despots.

.. and to imagine countries like China   sit on the UN board for human rights, and is a memeber of the security council with wide powers to play around with other nations of the world  while this very same chinese  go about killing their own people and unborn children. Its really not suprising that lately they have been supporting tyrants like gaddafi and Bashar Assad  as they know once all this tyrants are overthrown the chinese turn will be next

UK...thats what makes me sad that even though China is making huge strides in being acknowledged world over for its economic might, the resource that is making for it possible is treated in such a manner there.

although there is a one child policy in China, it doesn't deter the Chinese couple to have more than 1.  The penalty is already in their life irself.  2nd chld will never have any freebies from the government.  They are considered a burden so no free education and no subsidy from the government. This maybe happened to a very remote place where they mis-interpret the policy. And for your info, ABORTION is really very legal in China not only because of the one child policy but because of unwanted pregnancy among the young generation. Chinese are very sexually active.

Opps sorry was so lazy reading the whole article.lol.

So that's the law? when someone break it,they have to go to the house and kick the pregnant woman until she lost the baby? Why don't they give a fine or at least do it in a proper way that will not harm the lady?

Sad,another chaolin baby lost..I'm glad my ancestors didnt kill me then,i've heard that chinese want a baby boy..but im a baby girl.:( Thanks to my great grand parents who were not as barbaric as them.

china has a population control policy. we may totally disagree with it, but it is law. it has disadvantages (those who lost their child and are old to have another one will be childless...) and it has advantages: a child today enherit his mom and his dad, and his grandparents also: it's 6 individuals' wealth given to one. poor become rich.

But the woman was knowingly breaking the law. As heartbreaking as it is she had it coming. Anyone in China is aware of the rules and the penalties so she and her family or anyone who encouraged her brought it upon themselves. Its of course wrong in our eyes, and as a Muslimah I view this nothing short of murder, but over there it is the law.. and laws are not to be broken. Hope she gets over her tribulation and finds the means of leaving China..if she truly wants to have more kids legally that's what she'll have to do.
