60 dead in Uganda bombings
I'm sure most of you have heard about the horrific bombings that killed 60 people while they watched the World Cup.
Here's the latest link from CNN. The attacks are being blamed on Somali extremists.
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/07/12/uganda.bombings/?fbid=2iL...
Can someone please explain to me exactly what they hoped to achieve with this?
They are all utterly arrogant, selfrighteous eejits. No matter what religion ,typer of government or culture. and yes, they should be done away with. this world does not need such people, EVER.
and explaining these acts with religion, and what is said in what book is just diguising the fact that those people are nothing more but deluded criminals.
Why don't we just stop the sermon and call it what it is? Murder.
@Everyone - Please try to be normal here...this is only nothing.
Nic... i believe the qualified scholars are living today at an age of political oppression and even the echo of them screaming out cant be heard in the next cell. The others dont want to end up in the next cell or have embraced conservative livelihood.
well, that lot is kookie as well, aren't they? any fundamentalist seems to partake in their little small world to the exclusion of rational behaviour. I bet that if you were to investigate a little further these guys are most likely psychopaths in search of a way to kill somebody,,,,they would have been running a Jewish concentration camp in another generation...
No but fundamentalist Christians who shoot doctors that perform abortions are killing people.
No, no, mmyke, it's about a Christian in the US killing a Christian because their views on abortion were in opposition. Not a value judgment on abortion itself.
Mandi
have laid the law down,,,,its rather different than putting on an explosive vest in the name of something or other...
Yes there are moderate and extreme Muslims moonblue, just as there are moderates and extreme's in all religions. And I've seen quite a few news stories with a moderate voice, funnily enough though when I post them on here nobody comments.
Yes, in fact the latest abortion doctor to be killed was shot in church.
Mandi
I dont know why you are injecting that in this debate
Well that depends mmyke. I'm sure there are several doctors that provided abortions and were killed for it that considered themselves Christians.
The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create an emotional response through the suffering of the victims in the furtherance of a political or social agenda.
Violence against civilians to achieve military or political objectives.
A psychological strategy of war for gaining political or religious ends by deliberately creating a climate of fear among the population of a state.
Above are definations of terrorism.
Olive dear, there is nothing called moderate muslims or Extreme muslims. Islam is religion of peace. Now the media with too many 24 hours channels, printable millions news paper & magaazine, do not show or print the so called moderate voice. They need sensational news to make money, so you will never see headlines with moderate voice. The groups are using religion for terror and western forces are using names of such groups to acheive the goals of war & financial machinery.A news reporter recently asked DalaiLama when the world will have peace, his reply "when world will have no human beings". The man is at war to show his supermacy on weak. Some countries have lot of money to supply to conflict areas to keep war going. Sister fatima explaination is good , but we muslims are fed up about people using certain verses of Quaran being qouted out of contest to prove the holy book teaches voilence. Yes if muslims are persecuted, yes we have to challange like others are doing after 9/11, attacking &killing innocents on what is term as war on terror. Does any any other book teaches to do that. Voilence will bring no peace. Some donot learn lessons from the past.
Mmyke, well, maybe not so much anymore. As a student of church history I'm afraid we don't have a very good record. Think of the sack of Constantinople and the atrocities of the Reformation just to name two black marks.
Mandi
@Olive - Can you be my bestest friend please. I like your eyes this time?
don't kill others in the name of Christianity....
Yes he is and yes he is :)
@Olive - That guy looks gay. Is he the face-off guy? Is he into scientology too?
I used to follow scientology for 3 months. And I used to think it's for Psychos. Later I realized I was wrong. Now it's confirmed.
Why not Scientology?
Well of course everyone should stand up against them Brit, but I do wish more Muslims would be vocal about it. There have been a few, but as a group I personally think that moderate Muslims have been to quiet in condemning these type of attacks, perhaps out of fear or as Fatima said, being seen as "not Muslim enough" but it really needs to be done.
Huhehi @ Olive - You talk like me sometime. Like a psycho. Why scientology?
Too many extremist groups have used religion as an "excuse" for furthering their agendas. This includes Christians, Hindus and more widely Muslims in recent years. These type of actions are not only cowardly, target innocents and MUST NOT be condoned.
These morons in Somalia are targeting Uganda because its troops form part of the African Peacekeeping force.
I slightly disagree with Olive. Not just moderates, but everyone should stand up against such atrocities.
I'll talk about Scientologists instead.....
@Olive - Please don't talk about christians here. I don't like it. It hurts you know.
to make decisions! Too many scholars and different interpretations, and yet single belief, they say?
I'm sure there are many Psycho. The thing about moderate Muslims, hell moderate anybodies, is they tend not to do a lot of shouting and calling for people to be stoned to death or what have you. Hence they don't make the news. I think the number of actual fundamentalist Islamist's is probably a LOT lower then anybody thinks, but just like fundamentalist Christians the minority is just more vocal and can seem to be rather suffocating.
EXLegend,
I have no personal issue with the book itself, I can even say that I am at peace wit it.
My question is (rhetorically speaking) why this so touchy issue with so severe consequences, is not dealt with by the competent authorities (aka scholars or equivalent)! After all if I and other common citizens can link the causes with the source, why can't they do something about the misinterpretation and abusive and damaging use of it!?
@Olive - Moderate Muslims in Africa?? Who are they?
it would be best to speak when your knowledge about a subject is profound. and i am no scholar nor have encountered any of that personally to point a blaming finger at anyone.
though i guess the best advise would be an awakening based on that same very divine book.
partly... the reason is too much of TV and its dependency to form opinion about anything.
EXLegend,
I know that and people like you and many others here would not use those invitations for violence in a way to convince others to spread terrorism. But the fact is that some individuals do exactly this and this is not openly discussed because people are not comfortable in recalling the world's attention to sentences written in a certain holy book, when read in isolation, clearly invite terror!
And yet, that book or better those sentences are the foundation of most of the extremism movements in action, since this book was first published!
I wonder why so many people have such a hard time doing that though.
exactly what i meant ;)
ExLegend if everybody in the world thought that way ie: leave "his"beard and "her" hijaab alone, or in other respected others rights to live their own lives, the whole world would be a better, much more peaceful place.
Nic.. those phrases are from the first chapter... verily they have skipped the script.
take precautions while absorbing news... i just dont trust the whole lot of it... moreover i am quite overwhelmed with the obligations within my communal radius... that i prefer to leave 'his' beard and 'her' hijaab alone. in my opinion, everybody with this attitude will gradually cool the heat.
FathimaH,
Exactly!
I wrote my comment above before reading your reply and what you wrote is pretty much what I meant.
Where I conclude that the text in question is not suitable for the imperfection of human beings, as it can incite violence unfortunately constantly observed in the past 14 centuries.
Religion is a kind of dangerous politics, as its followers don’t rationally opt for it. Instead they are conditioned to it from very early ages before they mature and attain an objective and rational ability of independent thinking. This weakness is what allows supremacists to take advantage in recruiting their “soldiers” and the results is the sad reality seen a bit all over where thes “politics” is trying to take control.e
Those passages were revealed regarding that time period & the disbelievers then who were in fact killing & oppressing the Muslims simply for not worshiping who they worship. These terrorists are trying to interpret them to mean all disbelievers including those they presume disbelievers too which is plain wrong. You can't just read the Quran without learning the right interpretations too which is based on the knowledge of the Prophet, the companions, & the scholars upon their path. which is why we need to be careful from who we take our knowledge from. And beware of getting too emotional among other things. You know Nic many scholars even tell us that unless we can help them don't just go viewing stuff like the killings of Palestinians etc cos it might arouse in us the kind of negative emotions that can cause one to go astray. Like a certain late terrorist said how he turned to terrorism simply by watching a video on how Muslims were oppressed in Chechnya! Mind you he was an American of Saudi descent! Cos many of these videos too are made by these extremists as propaganda & many who fall for it are hot blooded over emotional hence easily brainwashed youngsters...nuff said!
I think more moderate Muslims need to speak out against these terrorists.
thax for the information...
EXLegend,
I could copy-paste here a few (too many) verses from a certain book, where clearly violence and terror is incited.
But I won’t do that here, in respect for those who don’t follow them literally.
The problem is some fanatics with a political agenda take advantage of poor ignorant souls and use those same verses to make them believe that killing the “infidels” is an act rewarded in paradise!
The fact is those passages exist and the result is visible to the world almost on a daily basis :(
It doesn't have a short answer though, but let me try. You see extremism originated shortly after the death of the Prophet. Certain Muslims, instigated by enemies in disguise started wars against the rulers believing their rulers to be judging by other than Allah's law. This was the beginning of what we call the "Kaarijites" or extremists. These were the people who killed the Prophet's own beloved nephew & son in law Ali,who was the ruler then cos they deemed him to be a disbeliever! As time wen't on such extremist groups grew. These are people who distort the Quran & misinterpret certain ayahs in it to suit themselves & many of them also disbelieve in authentic hadhits cos they believe their distorted view of the Quran to be sufficient. A good example today being the Al Quaeeda or the "Chechen freedom fighters" Its scary talking to them really. Cos they would even take someone like me to be a disbeliever cos I dont agree with their deviations.Like they believe that rulers of the Muslim lands today & their scholars(including Saudi) are disbelievers cos they let the Americans in n stuff like that!Hence they also believe any Muslim who supports such ideologies are disbelievers too!So its perfectly fine to kill us all.It sounds messed up & it is. There are actually many good books on this subject.where we learn how & what inspired such extremism. We have been warned of it mind you by the Prophet that we should fear extremism & deviation due to it. The safest way is to stick to the sunnah & follow the middle path! Hope I made sense cos like I said its not easy to sum it all up in one post cos the subject is very deep!
it should be understood that Terrorism is a tailored act. an obvious reaction that is often expected/predicted from the misguided. any religion preaches peace so how can you find room for extremism within it. Perhaps, its politics.
"The strong man is not the good wrestler, the strong man is the one who controls himself when he is angry" - Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)
that's what religion preaches.
Below is an extract from a prescribed prayer:
Show us the straight path,(1:5)
The path of those whom Thou hast favored; (1:6)
Not (the path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray. (1:7)
Religion commands to seek proper guidance...
May all that is right remain and that which is wrong be abolished... amen.
FathimaH,
May I ask from where all these terrorists get their inspiration from?
And sadder still that the terrorists actually believe they are gaining Allah's pleasure from such evil acts! This is a result of deviating from the path of the Prophet, Peace be upon him, & his companions. Most of these terrorists are brainwashed into believing what there crack pot, extremist "ameers" say that they don't bother to seek knowledge of the way of the Prophet. And how can they when their leaders convince them that even the scholars upon the truth are in fact evil beings who live to serve the rulers in their so called disbelief! And hence they find no problem in killing Muslims too. If thats what they believe about Muslims & Muslim rulers then how would they feel towards those non Muslims they are convinced are the oppressors? Truly we live in scary times..May Allah protect us all & our future generations from these terrorists & from extremism!
I'm sorry jeroenb, who among the people watching the World Cup Match was being aggressive?
To the hell with these bastards terrorists (civilized or uncivilized), who are killing innocents every where.
Olive said I believe Shabab would be one ...
I believe Shabab would be one of those people General Mattis would describe as "fun to kill"
I totally agree!
It is always the same people who have to rise against aggressors! It is sad to see that they are being bad mouthed for it.
Dutch
What Dot.Com, no "to hell with these civilized terrorists" who are happy when innocents die?
just taking their brunch!
thats fine
Next plz
they
/ðeɪ/ Show Spelled[they] Show IPA
–plural pronoun, possessive their or theirs, objective them.
1.
nominative plural of he, she, and it.
2.
people in general: They say he's rich.
3.
(used with an indefinite singular antecedent in place of the definite masculine he or the definite feminine she ): Whoever is of voting age, whether they are interested in politics or not, should vote.
can u please explain wat do u mean by "They"???
ALLAH SUBHANAHU WA TAALA knows only when a person lives or dies, and it is HE who knows why exactly this happenned,ALLAH knows best.
I'm sorry that this happened though.
A general in a war zone making a statement that it is fun to kill the enemy is obviously worse than some guy being happy at the death of 64 (As per the latest reports) innocent soccer fans ;)
Maybe because Allah's anger is the reason for these deaths.
I'm just making some observations soniya. :)
Olive, so u too miss some QLers???
Well it's kind of glaringly obvious that quite a few of our zealots from yesterday's thread aren't here to give their two cents about this one. Obviously this is less disturbing then some dumb General's remarks.
Lol!
Lol!
Silly me for starting this thread. Obviously since it isn't West bashing it isn't interesting.
They are insane and a whole bunch of maniacs who don't have any basic motive or goal of their life..They are misguided people..
I believe Shabab would be one of those people General Mattis would describe as "fun to kill"
As per a Shabab commander, Sheik Yusuf Sheik Issa, "Uganda is one of our enemies,Whatever makes them cry, makes us happy. May Allah’s anger be upon those who are against us."
How can anyone be happy to see innocents dying
But do they really think this is going to make Uganda pull out of Mogadishu? All this is going to do is bring retaliation on Somalia from the Ugandan gov't.
It's such bullshit.
why this is happening everyday, why people done like peace, humanity and smile on others face ??
Olive
here is the explanation
Al Qaida and its proxy in Africa Al Shabab thinks that human life is cheap like any memebr's life of their group.
yeah, its so sad.
