£500,000 is not enough! Doncha think?
Girl, 4, awarded £500,000 compensation payout after father shook her so violently she went blind
A little girl who was shaken so violently by her evil father that she went blind has been awarded £500,000 compensation.
Amy Laycock, four, was left blind and brain-damaged after her father attacked her in hospital.
The youngster was violently shaken by David Charlton when she was just 10 weeks old, but now solicitors have secured a half-a-million-pound payout, the highest possible amount available under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme 2001.
This follows a £100,000 interim payout secured two years ago.
Mum Emma, 25, a housewife, from Newcastle Upon Tyne said: 'I am so relieved that I can now give Amy an improved quality of life.
'The money she has received means she can have the future she deserves, all the equipment she needs and loving support throughout her life.
'It has been a really stressful couple of years, but finally we can put everything that happened in the past behind us and look forward.'
The toddler was left blinded and fighting for life after the attack, which took place in Newcastle General Hospital's children's ward on September 9, 2004.
Her 25-year-old father, also from Newcastle, was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and sentenced to eight years in prison in January 2006.
As well as being blind and severely brain-damaged, Amy is also epileptic, unable to walk or talk and will be wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life.
