35th QBC Qatar Open Badminton Tournament begins

Doha, January 15, 2009 – The 35th Qatar Open Badminton Tournament conducted by Qatar Badminton Club (QBC) has started at club's indoor courts, Doha Rugby Club annex on January 14th. Mr. Mohammed Atiq, President of QBC declared the tournament open in the presence of Mr. Ashfaq Hussain, Ex-President, Mr. Riaz Natiq, Ex-general Secretary, Mr. Murshid A. K Natiq, General Secretary, Mr. Girish Kurup, Chief Co-ordinator of Organising Committee, Mr. Pavan Kumar, Secretary of Organising Committee and other Organising Committee members. More than 100 persons including spectators, participants, families enjoyed the preliminary matches under the Senior Categories.

Junior category matches would start from 16th January and the players have been advised to report at the club at 9AM on 16th January for their matches. All matches are being played on a knockout basis and on the two world class makeshift synthetic courts made available by Aspire. Apart from Aspire, Olympic Sports, Doha Bank,Video Home and Signmax are supporting the tournament. Arrangements have been made at the club's indoor facilities to host the participants, parents and the spectators. The matches will be held every day between 7.00pm to10.00pm and on Fridays and Saturdays the matches would start early. The finals would be held on 28th and 29th January 2009.

The match fixtures are available at the club's notice board and has been sent by email where ever possible. In the 35th edition of the tournament championships will be held under Senior category Men Singles, Men Doubles, Women Singles, Women Doubles, Veteran Singles, Veteran Doubles, Mixed Doubles and under Junior category U-19 Boys Singles, U-19 Boys Doubles, U-19 Girls Singles, U-19 Girls Doubles, U-15 Boys Singles, U-15 Boys Doubles, U-15 Girls Singles and U-15 Girls Doubles. This year the tournament is all set to become bigger than earlier years and a grand success" -said Mr. Murshid A. K Natiq, QBC General Secretary, who is also supported by a well experienced team of 14 member orgnising committee.
