If it is insured, you have to wait, just like a collegue of mine at work for about four months, and then you will be given a cheque where you can buy a car again.

My friend was told that almost 200 cars were stolen in Qatar, and it is not possible to spot the cars anymore cause of all the semi-traffic chaos we have right now.

If you do not like the insurance cheque dont go to court, because it will take at least a year for you to get the settlement you might hope for or wish for......in the meantime if the car is found they will return it to you in whatever condition it is in.

FUNNY SIDE :

The theif was caught on traffic cams at least a dozen time racking speeding tickets.

He is still not caught, and my friend took the cheque.............

What's the best action one should take if a stolen car is spotted somewhere?

I think the person should call the police right away and report the whereabouts and description of the car, but what else?

"Insha'Allah" our friend can help you. but as you said what goes around comes around! does that mean Kevin will buy you another CRV? joke Dear. Merry Christmas to you and to your family and to Nanay and Tatay.

in my compound people leave their cars on the pavements(so do we).when i first came to doha i used to be amazed at how this could possibly happen and now after 4 years i probably have been lulled into a false sense of security...

this is an eye opener for sure.

good luck in finding your car.

do it right - the first time!

I mean are they helpful or receptive to suggestions? Maybe you can ask them to check if any Honda CRVs were shipped out? I know cars come in, but I am pretty sure cars go out on the same ship too......maybe you can suggest that avenue to them (unless they clamp onto you thinking you are teaching them their job!!)

I am trying to remember, but I think I saw this car carrier here around the 15th / 16th or thereabouts.

You see, this is entering "sleuthing" territory and the Police would be the best way forward. Just FYI, all cars loaded will have to be registered in the ships cargo manifest which will be readily available with the Customs........if the police wanted to check it.

Wonder if we export used cars from Qatar to elsewhere in the world........ a few days back I saw a Car Carrier (Ship) from my appartment window, berthed at the Doha Port. Wonder if they timed it right......I guess the ship was here a week ago ......when was your car stolen?

But this is not our business.......its the cops, but just set me thinking. A car cannot be stolen AND hidden in this small country. It has to be shipped out, dismantled and sold for spares or just driven across the border.

Interesting indeed.......

It is not uncommon here in Doha seeing cars parked wherever space available. In many building, the occupant parked their car on the gangway street. This is first time I hear a car has been thieved in Doha. In this such small country it is not worth stealing a car, LOL. Here, we only going Al Khor - Doha - Messaid so forth.

I am still not agree with Darude, immigration will check every car documents. Say one has passed the 1st immigration, but then he again will have to pass another 2 immgration: Saudi and UAE.

I'm really thinking stealing a car in Doha and then crossing the border not worth the risk. It is very easy to get caught and jailed.

Prevention is better than solution! Let this be a lesson to learn not only to the recent victim, but to everybody. We should not wait something to happen,we should be careful to all our things especially to our children. I happened to see one time in a department store, a mom was busy looking for stuffs to buy and her two kids are running around, they're around 4 to 5 years old.

I remember you told me that experience back in your home country ... but alot of mums in doha have false sense of security in Qatar :D

hey losing ones car is no joke i had mine stolen fr right under my nose (so to speak)parked in my hse in the porch. and after all the mumbo jumbo with the police we decided a change of scenery was in order hence our move to qatar......police asked if i had key in ingnition and was engine running so i answered i even put up a TAKE ME I AM FREE poster on the car!!

life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......

sensible caution should do you fine. Never leave your car parked unlock, with the engine on anywhere for whatever reason.

Unfortunately ... i saw loads of mums in my son's school leave their engine on running while they picking up the kids from school. Is not only that ... handbag ... ipod ... all shopping left inside the unlock running engine car.

I wonder if the owner left the key in the ignition, that's why it happened so quick...

I should keep an eye on my CRV now, chained the wheels and remove the steering when park somewhere. Back home I lost my car, parked just infront of a hospital but was recovered after 3 months. The insurance co. restored the car to its original state since most parts are missing except the engine.

i was in vehicle market for 3 years not my job but trying to find what happens around. if you be a GCC national the border secutiry doesnt bother that much to check ur papers or ur car ur id is enough. and a slight inspection not that they will try to check the chassis number and try to match it with the registration papers.

No way so Darude, here in Qatar such tricks is not much apply. The punish if got caught is huge and one never risk crossing the car out of border. Moreover inspection on every immigration point is strict and must produce the proper car's paper/document.

I believe the thief will not even drive the car on Qatari road afraid of being caught by police.

My best bet, the thief will take apart the SUV and sell it pieces.

By DaRuDe• 24 Dec 2007 07:39

you think the thief is dumb head. by now he might have changed the colour. and from scrap yard got a fake chassis number and glued it on and out of Qatar through border to KSA..
