How are your 2017 resolutions going?

We are on the brink of February and this naturally forces us to look back and assess how poorly we have executed our New Year's Resolutions.
It's roughly this time of year where people consider their goals futile and abandon ship. The general goals of weight loss, saving money, making more money, or being more "positive" are slowly forgotten about because we likely cheated with a cheese cake or buying something we didn't need.
I feel it's all overrated. Likely most of you feel the same. If anything, we can use the New Year as a friendly reminder to still set goals and pursue them. We always need that constant push to get started on whatever goals or change we want to execute.
For weight loss and health goals, myself and many others, hop on a plane and take off to the far east for detox and fitness centres. Why? Because it's sometimes not that easy to wake up the next day and just change your daily routine or habits.
Considering this, it's easy to see why New Year Resolutions often fail. Life goals require planning, effort, and sometimes a drastic push.
For instance, you want to make more money or move in your career? Rather than setting a benign goal every December 31st, actively do something to achieve that goal. Whether it's enrolling in a continuing education course or enrolling in dieting program - you need to DO something.
Goals are rarely achieved on whims. They often require hard work, determination, and consistency.
Essentially, don't blame yourself if you've already waved good-bye to your New Year Resolutions. There's a lot hype on a process that doesn't work. Instead, re-visit those resolutions, see why they mattered to you, assess if they were worth it, and actually set a plan. Once your plan is set, start to make the active steps to make it happen.
Often having a "goal buddy" helps. Whether it's a friend to go to the gym with, a colleague to enrol in a class with, or any other support figure. A second person in the loop keeps you encouraged and accountable.
Thus, if you failed at your New Year's Resolution, don't feel bad. Just take the opportunity to do what you need to actually realize your goals.
Good luck!
