This could ruin the economy and may put brakes on the growth if done.

And as for Bin Hammam being part of a longer term strategy, I take the opposite view.

This whole dirty saga has pushed Qatar and the Middle East generally back decades in terms of how it is viewed by other countries.

If their ability to discreetly bribe officials is anything to go by, I'm not sure how good the actual world cup is going to be :p

You may have a point, Brit. Although TPTB might have figured that with the 2022 poll all done and dusted, Qatar was off the hook.

I'm more inclined to think that Bin Hammam challenging Blatter is more a case of hubris, than foresight. A sense that if Qatar can win the 2022 bid (through whatever means) then they also deserve to lead FIFA.

The moral of the story seems to be that Blatter was never publicly concerned about bribery, but my, hasn't he reacted with strength and vigour when someone has challenged his position.

Do you really believe that Bin Hamamm challenged Blatter without getting the all clear from the powers that be ?

I think that Bin Hamamam running is a strategy for the longer term.

He's no dummy. Put him in charge of the IMF.

Blatter may be an ass, but he has played Bin Hammam like a cheap violin.

Blatter is doing nothing to dismiss the rumours surrounding Qatar's alleged bribery, if only because he wants to shore up his chances to beat Bin Hammam.

If Bin Hammam hadn't challeneged Blatter, none of this would be happening.

There must be some FURIOUS Qataris out there who want to slap down Bin Hammam right now.

Should have to stand aginst this rerun.. if they want to keep the soverignity of Qatar, Qatar Emirs & his Family alive... coz everyone knows that losers of 2022 bid asses are still burning of jealousy.. This is the time to show your loyalty to QATAR..

@ britexpat, looks like it,he's got the support(apparently) of all the major football confederations...Bin Hammam's only hope seems to be individual members voting for him in contradiction to the stand of their respective confederations...

It'll never happen, but i'm sure the lying, two-faced Ba$tard will be re-elected..

By his re-election, we will have proof that the whole of FIFA is as corrupt as he.

I guess this was just a matter of time...more like when will this surface rather than if...what would be a real shame is if they didn't actually pay anyone anything,it will needlessly sully their reputation...no smoke without a fire perhaps?...who knows?...

Can you blame him? This bidding thing has turned into a real cash cow for these people.
