Fifa president Sepp Blatter has set tongues wagging in the sub-continent claiming India could be the next favoured destination to host the World Cup 2026. Fifa, the governing body for world football, shocked everyone choosing Qatar to host the 2022 event.

But on Tuesday, Blatter dropped the biggest bombshell of them all. Speaking to a British newspaper, Blatter, known to put his foot in his mouth, said India's 1.2 billion people were not just a market for football but for the economy as well.

With all due respect. There is no chance that India can host a football tournament, leave alone FIFA. Indians are only crazy over cricket which is like their national sport and they will not hav the same amount interest towards Football.

Its wrong to compare Qatar and India cause its like comparing "Heaven" and "Hell"..

I dont think they need to control their population for the simple reason that they can share the people with the countries that dont have enough or just cannot make enough of their own like what is going on out here at the moment. As the country develops and moves ahead poverty slowly but surely will certainly grow less though it will not disappear altogather. Other countries may have coal, oil and gas but countries like india and china have their people

India should not be allowed to host any sport even for atleast next 300 years.

India must focus on Population control and poverty eradication before wasting time, money and public attention on superficial non-value adding gimicks.

The nice sunny weather, the beaches close by and the foreign tourists struttting their stuff all around the state doing booze, drugs and trance and just being in another world must have set this Blatter guy wondering why he did not have the World cup in Goa earlier. I am sure there is more to the game then big stadiums and loads of money. It was supposed to be a festival which is not the case anymore

The sad thing is that by 2026 India will have moved to better things then this petty distractions like the world cup

The biggest problem is that India as a Football team are simply not good enough. Being the host gets you in the competition automatically and India don't deserve to be there. Unless there is a miracle, they won't be good enough in 2026 either.

Hmm, I don't see why not...although, those players better watch out for Delhi Belly....imagine them running off the field in a panic every 20 mins....:0

Dee... lol... we will need SRK and Amir Khan to promote that like IPL...

15 yrs ago even cricket was having almost the same fate as other sports in India.

India has better conditions than Qatar, that's a fact.

But considering that 2022 will take place in Asia, 2026 can't be in an Asian country.

Perhaps 2030 or 2034 will be an option but then again, don’t forget that China is also in the race!

But, , Only on one condition, all the participating countries have to play bare-footed.

Its about time the whole voting system was changed. To save money and ensure transparency, only Sepp Blatter should be allowed to choose.
