Forever Alone

Forever Alone

In addition to the scorching heat during the summer months and an international outcry over Qatar's recent allegations of abusing migrant worker's, another issue has emerged over FIFA's decision to choose Qatar as the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, that is its audience.

During a recent match in Qatar between local football teams Al Gharaffa and Al Kharaitiyat, only one person in the entire country attended! (FYI- total population of Qatar is 2,024,707 ) The football fan was caputured in a photograph* sitting alone surrounded by hundreds of empty seats. Upon seeing this picture, many may wonder how is Qatar going to host one of the most widely viewed sporting events and the most popular sport in the world if it can't get its own residents to watch a football match?

A video of the scene was also released which was widely circulated and ridiculed, particulary among Arab internet users. Some went on as far as sarcastically claiminig that in Qatar, the numbers of players in the field is always bigger than the number of attendees (in this case it's the truth). While others opted for humor by suggesting  that the lone spectator should’ve been invited to partake in the game.

Thoughts?

International "icons" are already playing in other leagues

Far more to WC2022. but there should be a system to bring more fans not only locals but also expacts. It is not like African or European leagues. Authorities should be able to organize even local leagues using participation of international icons.

Fifa world cup matches is different than a local match which can be viewed on TV. People all Around the world will be visiting Qatar to watch the games and we cannot keep criticising the decision. You guys need to get over it and give this peacefull country a chance. Have you been to the Asian games in 2006? Have you seen the crowds at the stadium? I don't think so!! Have a look at it and you'll that it was a success with no regrets .

The simple fact is that Qatar has GOT the world cup.. So , live with it. Once the competition starts, locals, expats and foreign supporters will fill the stadia.

Afterwards , things will return to normal.

How foolish these people are comparing a local match with that of world cup match. I am sure stadium will be full during world cup matches as a large number of spectators will come from GCC countries particularly Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and UAE besides locals.

If this fan is the only one at the stadium why isn't he closer to the playing field? This leads me to believe that whoever posted this photo is Anti-Qatari and opposes the World Cup in 2022 to take place at Qatar. Don't believe everything you read or see, things can be manipulated such as this photo . . . propaganda crap!

Absolutely agreed with u man.I think, FIFA need to rethink before regretting.Seeing this picture, I wonder how much FIFA is putting on stake by putting this Country as a host. .The picture couldn't be more hilarious. ..I think a cricket match would draw more fans then just one loyal native citizen...

Perhaps if any of the games were advertised people may attend. Even big events here are only advertised the day before!

This is only a part of the stadium, I would expect far more evidence before agreeing with your anti National rant
