Flying has always been a dream for everyone.

In the 19th century, Arab inventor Abbas Ibn Firnas designed a flying machine consisting of a structure and large wings, and tried to fly.

He succeeded for a short distance.

However, today, the Arab World is witnessing new flying trials at the Red Bull Flugtag, with 45 teams working hard on designing unique and varied flying machines that might make their dream come true.

Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority, Red Bull Flugtag will visit Qatar on the 1st of November and will be held at the Museum of Islamic Art Park.

The event that toured 40 cities around the world for more than 20 years, will be held in collaboration with Ford, as one of the main sponsors, Innovations Unlimited ME, the event management agency, Qatar Museums Authority and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), as the host of the venue, Qatar TV as the official media partner, and QatarLiving as an online partner.

The first Red Bull Flugtag was launched in Vienna, Austria in 1992, and the word Flugtag means “flying day” in German. Since its first success in Vienna, the event has been held more than 100 times.

Amazing achievements were registered based on 3 major factors: creativity of the craft, showmanship and flight distance, in unique and fun experiences.

Some of the cities that hosted Flugtag are: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, in the US; Marseille (France), Prague (Czech Republic), Mainz (Germany), Belgrade (Serbia), Kiev (Ukraine), in Europe; as well as Istanbul (Turkey), Vancouver (Canada), Sidney (Australia), Oakland and Willington (New Zealand).

As to the Arab Countries, Red Bull Flugtag was held in Kuwait in 2007, 2010, and 2012; in Dubai in 2005 and 2007; in Jeddah in 2012; and will be in Doha for the first time on the 1st of November.
