Great upcoming event for Qatar teachers!

Highly qualified educators in Qatar are invited to attend the upcoming International Schools Services (ISS) regional recruiting fair, where they will connect with nearly 30 top-tier  international schools who are filling several hundred open positions – in both teaching and administration.

The event will be co-hosted by the Qatar Foundation (QF) at Education City from December 11-13th and will feature a variety of activities including school presentations, networking events and an intense interview sign-up session that can result in a teacher landing 6-8 job interviews in one day, with job offers and contracts signed on the spot. The event is open to active ISS candidates.

Driven by a tough job market in their home countries, a desire for better opportunity, and a chance to escape the politics of their respective local education systems, expat teachers are often drawn to the region, where they can make a positive difference in the lives of students, experience a different culture, and develop lifelong personal and professional relationships.

The International Herald Tribune, recently published an article (“International Schools Grapple with Staggering Demand”) discussing educators who are taking advantage of new global opportunities, “The economic rise of Asia and other parts of developing world and the growth of international commerce have drawn millions of people to the expatriate life, and they have brought their children with them.

Prosperity in developing countries is also manifesting itself in higher educational aspirations among local people. Many want their children to benefit from the better quality education and college opportunities available within the international school system.

But the unprecedented demand for international school places around the world is putting enormous strains on the system itself. Qualified teachers are in short supply.”

In this challenging socio-economic environment, ISS, founded in 1955 as a non-profit organization based in Princeton, NJ, offers educators and administrators a direct path to employment with some of the most prestigious international schools in the world.

For a $195 fee (covers 2 years or until you find a job) educators are able to host a comprehensive multi-media portfolio that goes beyond just a resume and references to include videos of themselves teaching, letters from students and parents, and even samples of their student’s work.

Educators can search open positions in hundreds of schools that match their background, review detailed information about each school’s salary and benefits offered, and even direct-link to the schools for an interview via live Skype addresses.

Although more and more candidates are getting hired prior to fairs, many (often nearly 80% of attendees) land positions at the recruiting fairs “These prestigious schools are regularly inundated with hundreds of resumes from candidates, but who prefer to work with an organization like ISS who does the heavy lifting for them – vetting candidates, obtaining and hosting confidential letters of recommendation, and hosting their portfolios in a new, state-of-the art, searchable online portal,” said Laura Light, ISS Director of Educational Staffing.

“By the time they begin interviewing or arrive at a job fair, schools know that they are meeting quality candidates who are ready to launch an exciting career overseas – and more importantly, who have been coached in the challenges and opportunities of this career choice.”
