Gibran Khalil Gibran play in Doha
“A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.” - from 'The Prophet' by Gibran Khalil Gibran, 1923.
Katara presents, for the first the time in Qatar, "Gibran Khalil Gibran" the theatre play "Rest upon the wind", following the big success in London's West End, Liverpool, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Amman.
It will be showing LIVE in Katara at the Drama Theatre on the 12th, 13th and 14th of September.
A unique experience not to be missed.
This play reflects the ups and downs of Khalil Gibran's life as an immigrant poet/painter in America.
It's the story of his struggle to deliver a message of love and peace to his fellow human beings, as he did in "The Prophet"; it's the story of those who loved him and tried to help him people like his rebellious sister Myrianna, his guardian angel, Mary, his eccentric mentor, Fred - and those who tried to thwart and destroy him - his businessman neighbor, Marzoo, and his secret lover, Annie.
The troubles and cruelties of his daily life led him to seek the highest level of spirituality.
This generous, funny and moving new script by acclaimed Jordanian-born actor Nadim Sawalha celebrates the Arab sense of humor and family warmth through the relationship of Gibran and his sister Myrianna as they struggle to adapt to life in America.
Memories of childhood and his own spiritual awakening in Mount Lebanon are juxtaposed with the everyday bustle and music of the Lebanese Enclave of Chinatown, Boston.
With original sound-score from award winning composer Jules Deering, this production boasts stunning visuals, live music and electric performances from a strong cast.
A highly entertaining show and unique night of theatre not to be missed!
“Gibran Khalil Gibran has influenced the lives of millions of people around the world. He is acknowledged as one of the great spiritual teachers of all time. He’s an iconic figure of international standing and I felt that the time had come to present a dramatic interpretation of his life. I felt that if we knew a bit more about him, we would come out of the theatre knowing more about ourselves. This is apart from the fact that his ghost has haunted me all my life!”
