Family-friendly film THE SAPPHIRES at Katara
Take four young Aboriginal girls with velvet voices who can belt out soul music like nobody’s business and what have you got? The Sapphires, Australia’s answer to The Supremes. Based on a true story about a 1960s girl group who left the Australian outback to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, ‘The Sapphires’ is a joyous tale of sisterhood, beating the odds, and good old-fashioned soul music.
Starring Chris O'Dowd, Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Shari Sebbens and Miranda Tapsell, this film is rated PG and runs for 103 minutes.
The director, Wayne Blair was born in Taree, Australia, and is a renowned television and theatre writer and director. In 2013, he was recognised as one of ‘Variety’’s 10 directors to watch, and he continues to build on his portfolio of award-winning short films, including ‘Black Talk’ (2002) and ‘The Djarn Djarns’ (2005). ‘The Sapphires’ (2012), his feature directorial debut, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to be the highest-grossing Australian film of 2012.
