Aspire joins conference on laborers’ rights
In Qatar’s on-going efforts to protect laborers’ rights in Qatar, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is joining a number of other Qatari institutions to sponsor the first ever conference to be held on the issue, that will take place on Qatar’s Labor Day.
The conference will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on May 1st and is being organized by the National Human Rights Committee in cooperation with Dar al Sharq. Amnesty International, which last year published a critical report about laborers’ rights in Qatar, especially in the construction industry, is also participating.
Several distinguished speakers from the government, private companies and institutions including Amnesty International will address delegates at the one-day conference.
“Aspire Zone Foundation is proud to sponsor this important event, which strives to create a forum to address these issues and find solutions in providing laborers with a dignified life in Qatar as well as preserving their rights,” said Khalid Abdullah Al Sulaiteen, Aspire Zone Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer.
"International certificates awarded to Aspire in quality control, health and safety serve to indicate our uncompromising belief in laborers’ rights. And last year, we were pleased to achieve 8 million man-hours without a single lost time incident,” Mr Al Sulaiteen added.
The conference aims to foster a meaningful dialogue about the protection of laborers’ rights, improve their work environments, in addition to modifying or decreeing laws to help them live in dignity.
