I think we should suggest some caption for Qtel. Here is mine:

I am Arab, here I go

By Arien• 8 Dec 2011 10:46

Its perfectly alright to have that caption in connection with the Arab Games.

i think they got it from "I am gay and proud" Sounds like I am arab gay and proud, no originality, they should advertise differently with original concept

I'm more proud of being a Muslim, an Egyptian then An Arab.

There is nothing wrong in being proud of whom you are; it's all about the way you express it.

And yes, as Muslims it might not be the best term to use.

But you'll need to percieve it as a justified reaction to the inferiority, intemidity / fear or it might go to the extent of hatered that many other nationalities / races don't bother expressing it publicly when they meet Arabs.

They are proud of the Arab games maybe!Or to get more melodramatic despite all the trials and tribulations sweeping through the Arab world, to be able to overcome it all and take part in such a prestigious(?) event makes them happy to be who they are!

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2011 09:08

It's just an Ad at the context of Arab Games. Why do you want to make it 'alkult' by thinking beyond its context?

By dine-sh• 8 Dec 2011 09:03

"I am Arab, and Proud" wtf :) qtel sucks anyway.

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2011 09:03

The question is: what are the proud of? The Ghaddafis, the Mubaraks, the Assads, or the Salehs? They are Arabs, aren't they?

By FathimaH• 8 Dec 2011 08:54
FathimaH

but hey..we all know what the campaign is about, so chill bro. As the wise brother Khanan put it "don't think so hard" there are far more pressing concerns in the world today than what an ad for the Arab games is implying!

But I do love the hadith you quoted. It is in fact one of my favs. Very humbling..Jazakhallahu khair!

By anonyalkult• 8 Dec 2011 08:42
anonyalkult

So Fathima is it not better to say,

I am Arab, and happy

By anonyalkult• 8 Dec 2011 08:40
anonyalkult

The problem is the word "Arab" has the implication of a race, rather than just a nationality, as proved in Prophet Muhammad's quoting I made above. It is different from saying say, "I am Qatari, and proud". I hope Qtel will think again about this.

By FathimaH• 8 Dec 2011 08:38
FathimaH

I'm happy to be known as an Arab, or maybe I am not ashamed to be an Arab. Or perhaps even I am pleased with all I have achieved as an Arab...the meanings can be endless but I really doubt it's what you assumed it to be. ie Proud=arrogance/superior attitude

By Khanan• 8 Dec 2011 08:34
Khanan

don't think that hard..

this ad is being put up in the context of Arab Games...

By anonyalkult• 8 Dec 2011 08:33

Ok Fathima can you explain what proud means here?

Gosh dude this has nothing to do with anyone's superiority over anyone else, dont turn something good into something bad now.

I'm guessing Mr Anony..finds the whole "I am Arab and proud" a bit unnerving as it kinda seems to imply the cliched " Arabs are proud(as in arrogant)" bit! I guess for anyone living under a rock and having no clue about the Arab games an ad like this would make them go "they didn't just say that" or maybe even "you can say that again" !

That said its quite an effective and innovative campaign. Certainly hits all the right spots!

Arabs can be proud of originating this great principle:

"All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. "

Why do you say its weird? Its advertising for the "Arab" games, its actually a nice one in my opinion, and i'm sure any Arab reading it would say the same thing.
