Why forgive Others this Ramadan?

realsomeone
By realsomeone

The Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: Musa, the son of Imran once asked, "Oh my Lord! Who is the most honorable of Your servants? And He replied, the person who forgives even when he is in a position of power" (Baihaqi). Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet.

You know you're right.

You know what I'm referring to - those times when you get into an argument(s) with a family member, friend, boss, employee, coworker, classmate, teacher or whoever. You know your facts are right or that you've been wronged with an insulting remark, sarcastic comment or rudeness.

And so, you choose to hold a grudge. After all, you've got a right to. Nobody should be treated this way. Why should you forgive? You're not the one who started this. You're not the one who doesn't have the facts straight.

True. You may be right. You may be in that position of power mentioned in the Hadith above. But forgiving others, apart from positively affecting our health (less stress) and our minds (one less negative thing to focus on), is a necessary step to closeness to God.

How can we move up the ladder of spiritual development when we hold bitterness and anger towards another person? While we may have been in the right, is it worth sacrificing our energy on a grudge instead of on growth?

Is there not something strange about asking for God's forgiveness of our sins while withholding our forgiveness from someone who has hurt us?

One of the distinguishing features of Ramadan is forgiveness. The Prophet explained in one Hadith that Ramadan is a month whose beginning is Mercy, whose middle is Forgiveness and whose end is freedom from the Hellfire. This makes it a great time to ask God for His Forgiveness. It's also a wonderful time to open our hearts and cleanse them of grudges and bitterness by forgiving others.

The path to connection to God is always paved with tests and difficulties. Nobody gains spiritual upliftment without having to prove their mettle. This process includes facing all kinds of hardships, including injustice at the hands of others.

If we truly want Allah's love, mercy and forgiveness, we must remember that the hurts of this world are temporary, and we are working towards that which is permanent. Is it worth being bitter and stunting our growth? Will it really benefit us? How will our anger and bitterness change the person who has hurt us?

Let us use these remaining days of forgiveness this Ramadan to open our hearts to those who have wronged us and forgive them as we beg Allah to forgive us.

Encouraging forgiveness has got to be a good thing. I would think the best living examples of forgiveness have to be Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama... an inspiration to all.

Just wanna make a question that came to my mind last night, i just hope people don't get too sensitive about what i'm about to say but i belive you'll all see it as a logical question.

According to what i have been reading, in Ramadam, you don't eat or have "naughty thoughts" during 1 month at day light, i was suggesting that a way to prove God/Allah that you are pure and don't have naughty thoughts would be allowing women and men not to cover themselves that much as they do, because that will show God/Allah that people are clear of thoughts and that they can walk in the street without any worries.

That would be really showing that you all are true muslims because just 1 month per year sounds too litle to prove God/Allah that you are pure.

Blessed be all of you my muslim brothers and that Allah enlightens your path.

Oryx its all about politics and personal interest, not all people will follow what the Quran teaches someone will try to use his own way.

so it has nothing to blame for the Quran or Islam its a matter of politics, anyway Islam teaches that leadership is not something to run for its something to run away because the responsibility is so great and you see people are killing each other for leadership and political gains.

Jezzak Allah Khayr for reminding us of this before Ramadhan. Yes, we should and do seek and give forgiveness every day, but especially in Ramadhan.....

Regarding what someone else mentioned about "us non-believers" seeking forgiveness every day - Ramadhan is special to us for many reasons, one being that it is the month that the Quran was sent down and many people read the Quran a few times during Ramadhan and reflect on what God is telling us,and we pray late at night all together in the mosque during Ramadhan as well which you will hear for about and hour or more after the last prayer of the day in this time. And we fast to remind us of how the poor and hungry feel so we will help them, and it encourages us to think of others and think deeply about our lives and actions and strengthens our relationship with God...just as other religions have their special times where they focus more on themselves and their faith like Catholics in lent for example.

I never understood it until I became Muslim and fasted my first Ramadhan.

Allah forgives all times and Allah loves forgiving all times for all sins (except Associating something with him) but Ramadan is extra exception because the level of forgiving in ramadan is very high, imagine there is one night which is equal to 1000 months. that is more then the life of average person.

for example see what The Prophet (pbuh) explained in one Hadith "that Ramadan is a month whose beginning is Mercy, whose middle is Forgiveness and whose end is freedom from the Hellfire." freedom from hellfire absolutely explains the highest level of forgiveness since human beings commits sins no matter how good he maybe .

that is why its encouraged for the people to take extra efforts to forgive in Ramadan, why shouldn't we forgive when God forgives so much.

Poverty is not for the sake of hardship. No, it is there because nothing exists but God. Poverty unlocks the door -- what a blessed key!

Here we go again, why can you just be contructive for one minute. I really thought you were growing up a bit and we were getting somewhere on our Singapore thread:

http://www.qatarliving.com/node/156541

Read this link people .......... towards the end Charan did seem to act all grown up LOL

.... So, come on, lie back on the couch, and lets continue .........

Relaxed? Good, now then, Charan, yes you can have an opinion here, but why does it have to reflect your infantile inner self all the time? Why not respond like some of the grown ups?

I respect anybody with a religion, they have a belief and it is usually good.

If you have a particular point to make, then, as in the S'pore thread, concentrate on exceeding the moronic one liners and be sensible ............ for a change.

Oh, and during my trip to Colombo, I respected all the temples and sites of worship, even though maybe, I did not understand everything that was their belief.

there's nothing wrong with the post...in my opinion, it's a celebrated occasion within a whole year, as christians do during holy week. It's just a reminder of turning into our spirituality. Although forgiveness should always come in our everyday life though highlighted during Ramadan season. There has to be some reminder, as people sometimes tend to forget the value of forgiveness.

Apple i really dont have anything against Charan he is the one who is always trying to provoke me.

with name calling like "fanatic, mullah etc" anyway i love to forgive and i am the kind of person that doesnt take argument out of the door. So you are forgiven Charan.

why cant you just ignore the posts/thread when that you like.

Myself not too keen with realsomeone, but this is public place. As far as he did not stuffs his beliefs into my throat , fine by me.

And as for Ramadhan coming ... i respect my friends who fast. Although i am unhappy most cafes / restaurant shuts during the day i am sure i can get by.

Advance ramadhan kareem for those who fast :-)

Charan, ask anything you want to know(if there's any)about Ramadan and Realsomeone be happy to reply you:))) Instead of fighting and kicking, what benefit you got from it guys? Nothing!

your post should contribute something to the thread and enlighten the others. What did we add here by posting, crap, garbage and I don't want to get down to the rest?

Anyway ... I'm not against or with these posts ... I just don't want people here fighting because of someone who would post something that will lead us to nothing but conflicts ...

Let's keep it clean, plenty of garbage is out there on the streets ... we don't need it here ...

so if this is not for you leave it alone. Why call me fanatic , garage etc?

I am sure you and me have no issue with each other. so lay off man. take care of your business and dont create controversy here.
